ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, in his weekly media briefing on Thursday, firmly rejected the irresponsible and provocative statements made in the Indian Lok Sabha regarding “Operation Mahadev.”
He said the statements by Indian politicians aimed to distort facts, justify aggression, and win public support for military actions.
He stressed that the world knows India attacked Pakistan on the night of May 6–7 without credible evidence or investigation, resulting in the deaths of innocent men, women, and children.
He added that India gained nothing from the attack, while Pakistan’s successful defensive response and downing of Indian aircraft were acknowledged globally.
The spokesperson urged India to acknowledge its military losses and the truth about the ceasefire achieved through US mediation. He noted that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had offered an international investigation into the Pahalgam incident, which India rejected, rendering its claims about “Operation Mahadev” baseless.
He described the Indian Home Minister’s claims about “Operation Mahadev” as a pack of lies, questioning the credibility of such statements.
Shafqat also dismissed India’s attempt to normalise military aggression as the “new normal,” asserting that Pakistan had demonstrated in May that any such act would be met with a strong response. For Pakistan, he said, “normal” bilateral ties mean respecting each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Iranian president’s visit to Pakistan
The spokesperson confirmed that the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, will undertake a two-day official visit to Pakistan starting August 2. During the visit, he will meet with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
This will be President Pezeshkian’s first official visit to Pakistan, and he will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials. The visit is expected to strengthen the brotherly ties between the two nations.
Indus Waters Treaty
The FO spokesperson also strongly rejected India’s recent statements on the Indus Waters Treaty, stating that India’s attempt to unilaterally suspend the agreement reflects its irresponsible attitude toward international obligations and violates core principles of regional cooperation.
He warned that India’s war hysteria, reliance on disinformation, and provocative rhetoric pose a serious threat to peace and stability in South Asia. Pakistan, as a responsible state, remains committed to peace and the principled resolution of all disputes, including Jammu and Kashmir, through dialogue.
