2 weeks in Croatia this summer

  1. Hi everyone I am spending 2 weeks in Croatia this summer and would love some advice! Is there anything you would recommend cutting out, spending more time in or doing in a different order? Thanks so much!

  2. Take the map and change the plan, this looks tiring. Three days in Dubrovnik are unnecessary. Two weeks can be spent much better

  3. Each of these destinations is worth a visit. A day more or less, here or there, it doesn’t matter. It would be best to have at least one more week! 😃

  4. Since you’re asking in Croatian subreddit, I recommend dropping Kotor and Mostar and staying a day or two longer in Split, as that would provide you time for more relaxed trips to nearby islands.

You could also squeeze in visiting Zadar after Plitvice on your way to Split.

  5. It is waste of time if you try to see all of this in 2 weeks.50 % of time you will spend on traveling and you will not see anything interesting

  6. You are going to have a blast. Korčula and Hvar are more beautiful than Dubrovnik. Especially old town of Korčula. If you look old town of Korčula from the air, the streets form a fish bone pattern. I wish you all the luck you can carry. And one more thing. Croatia is (opposed to Italy, France, Spain, etc.) one of the safest countries in the Mediterranean. So, you can chill and relax to the fullest.

  7. One day is definitely enough for Zagreb.

Also one day is enough for Plitvice (I’m not even sure you can buy a two day ticket and there are no cities near).

You can see the whole Dubrovnik in two day and it’s more inconvenient to find a beach to swim and rest there, than on your other destinations. I would replace one day at Dubrovnik with day extra on Korčula or Hvar.

Definitely visit Mostar which is very different fro. The your other destinations.

Montenegro is great but have in mind that the drive to Kotor is pretty long. So, if you get tired switch it for Trogir or Zadar which are much closer to Split. You could make it a one day trip. Trogir is a lot like Kotor and a lot closer.

Also, if you want to make it more relaxed, after Plitvice make Split your base and do one or two days trip to the destination you choose.

Feel free to ask any questions 🙂

  8. Drop one day from Plitvice and one day from Dubrovnik and use those to visit another island near Split. After Korčula change the order to Dubrovnik -> Kotor -> Mostar, that way you wont be zig-zagging all over southern Croatia, plus the roads are much slower in the far south (no highways).

  9. Hi! I speak from personal experience and would recommend you:

2- Days in Zagreb (So that you can visit the whole city and take a trip outside to see Mirogoj for example )1- Day in Plitvice is more than enough3- Days in Split and spent the rest oh my days between Hvar, Korcula2- Days in DubrovnikPersonally, I am against traveling too much during the summer period due to traffic, so I advise against visiting both Mostar and Kotor (save your travel money for a few extra whims in the Croatian islands;) [Visit some local olive oil producer or of wine 😉 ]).
Have a nice holiday and have fun!

  10. You should find something close to sea with a grill and just chill. Well, thats my idea of vacation. This itinerary is like running a marathon.

  11. I would recommend putting Omiš, Zadar, and Šibenik on the list it’s also along the way from Zagreb to Split.

  12. Take a day to have a tour around the islands. You can take it from Hvar or Split. Check out Vis, im from that island so I may be a little biased but I would say that with a good enough tour it’s very much worth it.

  13. 1 day is enough to see all the sights in Split as well as in Dubrovnik. Why two days on Plitvice? If I were you, I would visit Šibenik and Zadar. Also, I don’t know what you are expecting from Mostar, 2 hours is enough for Mostar.

  14. To be honest, I think you’re going to lose so much time for travelling.. If I were you, I would go Plitvice 1 day, Split 3 days, lose one island (i will go to Korčula instead of Hvar), Dubrovnik 2 days, Kotor…

I am assuming you’re going by car so you can explore beaches around Split (Makarska Riviera)…

Also, I don’t think Mostar is necessary.. There’s really not much to do or see except that famous Old Bridge..

  15. Yes, unfortunately getting to Korcula in peak season will honestly take one whole day. 2 days per island doesn’t make sense at all. Also, what others said about Plitvice, although that’s a bit of a hike, so you may not be up for much afterwards, depending on your level of fitness.

  16. You must be American! 🙂 sorry, but I couldn’t resist. The only people that were coming to Europe with a mission to “do Croatia” are Americans. Man, you ain’t going to get a feeling for the place like this. Do you honestly think you get anything out of a place by “snapshotting”everything? Because this is exactly what you are doing with a plan like this, getting a snapshot. Instead of a memory. You need time to create memories and with a plan like this, you ain’t got that. Go with the flow, man. Wake up late, sit at the square, go to the local market. Take your time.

  17. Im Croatian, living abroad. And I went with a girl just like you to about 7-8 places in two weeks to show her around. Knowing the country really well it was still super intense. But if you wanna see alot of stuff I would recommend to just go to Plitivice 1 day. Then go to The Islands Brac (2-3day), Korcula(1-2days), Hvar(2-3days), Dubrovnik(1-2days). Return to Split(5-7 days). Spend at least 5 days in Split and see National Park Krka, Omis, Trogir, the cave in Dugopolje, enjoy the city of Split. Skip the rest on your list. Go back home.

  18. I think you should redo this excel by adding traveling times. If you’re using a car, add some extra time to whatever Google maps say due to traffic and taking time to rest at some points. If it’s public transport that you’re using, check timetables. Once you’ve done that, you’ll see how much time you have left in each place and how much sense it all makes. Personally, it feels to me like you’ll just spend a week on the road and you’ll have to rush from one place to another to get to your accommodation, leaving you with just a few hours in the evening and morning to see a place. It’s better to choose a few bases (each for a few days) and then make day trips out of those bases while sleeping at the same place (I won’t suggest what those would be, I don’t know your preferences). That way in each base place you can decide if you want to take it easy or not. I do agree with people who say you don’t need to spend two days at Plitvice. Reconsider what you’ll do with islands, it gets more complicated and longer travel-wise when you add a ferry to the picture. Try to select one of the two islands from your list and then maybe visit some other closer islands for a day visit from your base. And then some people say to stay many more days in Split. I personally think there’s no point in spending more than 3 days in Split (unless it becomes a base). But I admit that might be just my personal preference, I’m not that crazy about it. People in Cro like to take it easy in summer (you’ll see why, it gets so ridiculously hot and you’ll be more tired from the sun than you think). Enjoy the travels!

  19. Don’t drop Mostar from the list, croatian people are just salty whenever someone mentions Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mostar is beautiful and bosnia generally has 1000 better and cheaper food than croatia

  20. I was backpacking all around the world. And one thing I can say you for sure. Enjoy your time and better go 2 times to a country than to hassle from one point to another. Do you want to enjoy your trip and just to sit in buses (And Balkan Borders) and to make Instagram pictures everywhere ? In Peak times from Mostar to Kotor can take your half day sometimes, you will not be able to go up the hill for the kotor bay view. You should focus on some points. Take at least 2 full days per destination and don’t count the travel days!

  21. I will just say good luck… just two tips, border crossing near Neum it will take you few hours to pass, same with crossing to montenegro. I do lots of crossing there and avrage time at Croatia/Montenegro ceossing in summer time is 2-3 hours.

  22. If you need a guide and/or any sort of help when you arrive to Mostar, please hit me up, I would be glad to help you😊
