  1. Does this make sense? The saying goes, charity starts at home? Where is the ECHR when it comes to British citizens who are homeless?

We really need an undercover operation to make a documentary where they go to France and get a boat to the UK illegally so we can see what kind of bending over we actually do.

  2. The idea that the life of an asylum seeker is something worth envying is such a bizarre intervention from the right in this country.

I too would love to live in a bedbug infested shithole hotel and have to feed and clothe myself on £50 a week while not being allowed to work. Sounds like a dream!

  3. a story about this literally every 30 seconds definitely seems proportional and not designed to whip up fury

  4. the country is slowly being destroyed , no wonder so many are opting out of paying tax to support these illegals

  5. God forbid that under 40 people get temporarily housed in a small number of flats. As the article points out this is much cheaper than housing then in hotels. What other alternative is there?

  6. I consider myself a lefty, but this is a fucking joke.

  7. “Despite public perception, asylum seekers are not eligible for social housing. Under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, they are offered basic accommodation and subsistence only if they are destitute, and this is always provided separately from local authority housing allocations. Therefore, claims that asylum seekers ‘jump the queue’ ahead of British families are factually incorrect.”

    Buried several paragraphs down.

  8. We can keep saying “Look over there at the billionaires” but this is actually happening. Billionaires not paying enough tax is not related to housing illegal migrants in new flats. Labour don’t get it, the Tories wanted it and Farage is going to capitalise from it. Immigration needs a national debate; not Starmer doing 1 for 1 deals with the French. Are we in a position – financially, infrastructure, employment, NHS etc. to grow out population at the current rate – planes & boats, legal and non-legal? What does the government say – yes we are, no we aren’t – and depending on which answer, what is the plan??? The plan seems to be ride out the storm until Farage gets a go.

  9. No wonder the population is pissed off! This government puts its own citizens last!

And now Whitehall has a team monitoring the internet trying to suppress any negative comments about illegal economic migrants and two tier policing!

If you didn’t already know it, we live in a totalitarian police state

  10. What if all the youngsters who need to get housing were to go over to Calais and then sail their own little boat back to the UK?

    Would they also get housing?

  11. This cannot go on. People are rightly concerned for women/girls safety and the useless government seem to be paralysed with shock and a dismissive pearl clutching arrogance to the publics legitimate concerns.

  12. It’s both possible that billionaires are immigration is ruining the country among other things. It doesn’t have to just be one thing.

  13. Is there a reason that homeless people on the streets don’t get offered these flats or hotel accommodation?

I actually mean this as a genuine question, is there some kind of legal or practical purpose which has led to migrants getting more support than British homeless ?

  14. Next election is basically going to hinge on whoever promises to deport the most people. It has gone on too long and is unsustainable at current levels.
