Iceland is set to make a comeback in Limerick

Two years after the unexpected closure of its standalone store in Limerick, Iceland Foods is making a welcome return to the city, this time through a new store-within-a-store concept inside Dunnes Stores.

Opening on August 8, the new concession marks a fresh chapter for the frozen food retailer, whose previous Limerick store shut down abruptly in 2023 after its parent company, Metron Stores Ltd, entered liquidation.

That closure left staff without jobs and customers without access to the popular range of frozen goods.

The new outlet will offer over 200 products, including Iceland’s own-brand items and exclusive lines from popular UK names like Greggs, Slimming World, TGI Friday’s, and Harry Ramsden’s.

The Limerick location is part of Iceland’s growing partnership with Dunnes Stores, following successful store-within-a-store launches in Dublin and Terryland.

Justin Addison, International and Partnerships Director at Iceland Foods, said: “We’re delighted to bring Iceland back to Limerick through our continued partnership with Dunnes.

“This new format allows us to offer great value and exclusive products to more Irish customers, and we look forward to a successful future in the city.”

The move is expected to be well received by Limerick shoppers who had missed the brand since its sudden exit in 2023.
