Get ready for two days of free family fun as ‘Kanner in the City’ takes over Luxembourg City’s squares with games, crafts, and playful adventures themed around five elements.
Update: the city of Luxembourg has cancelled Friday’s ‘Kanner in the City’ activities due to the yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms.
The event
The municipality of Luxembourg City’s annual children’s festival, called ‘Kanner in the City’, will return on the first August weekend, inviting children and families to enjoy a wide range of free games and workshops across the city centre.
Organised by the municipality’s Childcare Department, the event is part of the long-standing ‘Aktioun Bambësch’ leisure programme, which has been running since 1973.

This year’s theme is ‘The 5 elements: fire, water, earth, metal, wood’, inspiring hands-on activities such as clay and earth workshops, water games, woodcraft sessions, recycling workshops, and more. The programme is designed for children aged four to 12, accompanied by their families.
Professional activity leaders from Aktioun Bambësch will be joined by ‘Spielmobile’ – mobile play centres from across Europe – to deliver an interactive, multicultural experience for all ages.
The event takes place across multiple city squares. On Friday, 1 August, festivities run from 2.30–5.30pm at Place d’Armes, Place Guillaume II, Place Jan Palach, Place des Capucins, and Place du Puits-Rouge. On Saturday, 2 August, activities continue from 2.30–6.30pm at Place d’Armes, Place Guillaume II, and Place Jan Palach.
Entry is free and no registration is required.
