COLUMBIA, S.C. – Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette is calling for South Carolina to build a new immigration facility.
In a Facebook post, Evette said, “It is time to build Palmetto Pen. South Carolina must stand with President Donald Trump and get dangerous illegals off our streets and out of our country.”
Evette later wrote, “Palmetto Pen will give law enforcement the tools they need to detain and hold these violent criminals safely. It will ease the burden on our local and state jails. It will act as a powerful deterrent. And most importantly, it will save lives.”
We reached out to Governor McMaster’s office to see if he would support a similar idea.
“Governor McMaster has directed state officials to continue exploring how the Palmetto State’s unique assets and resources can be utilized to provide additional and enhanced support in the weeks and months to come,” the governor’s office said.
The governor’s office also mentioned that South Carolina’s law enforcement and National Guard would continue to collaborate with federal officials on immigration enforcement.
