The Lithuanian military has found a drone it believes entered its airspace from Belarus after several days of searching, the military announced today.

The drone was found at the Gaiziuinai military training range near the town of Jonava.

According to initial reports, it is a so-called Geran drone, which outwardly resembles the Shahed combat drones used by Russia in its war against Ukraine.

It is not yet known whether the drone is equipped with explosives or whether it contains fuel.

The Lithuanian military and other authorities have been investigating for five days an incident involving a flying object spotted by citizens.

The object was last seen near the capital Vilnius.

According to the military, the drone was most likely diverted by Ukrainian air defenses.

But, this is not the first such case.

When asked how the flying object crashed unnoticed at the Lithuanian military training ground, military representatives explained that there is no radar equipment in that area.

Now Lithuania, a member of NATO and the European Union, is demanding a statement from the Belarusian government.

After the discovery of the vehicle, the government in Vilnius sent a note of protest to the authoritarian leadership in Minsk demanding an explanation.

In addition, the Baltic country has deployed additional troops and air defense systems on its border with Belarus. /Telegraph/
