‘Everybody’s ready for a change’: Labour losing grip on Sunderland

  1. The woman in here blaming Labour for misusing the local money is oblivious to the fact that the UK Conservative government has been revealed to be deliberately cutting funds to Labour areas for political gain.

It’s literally out of the council’s control how much money they get.

But overall losing Sunderland wouldn’t be a good look on an otherwise strong night for Labour.

  2. *Everybody’s ready for a change*

Then don’t vote for Labour or Tory and let’s do real change instead of the status quo

  3. > Delaney, 69, said she would vote Conservative because she felt Labour had taken people for granted and misused money locally:

You actually can’t make this stuff up.

  4. I grew up in the North East and the local Labour party’s were very much a ‘club’.
The councillors had a lot of clout for getting people jobs at the council, nepotism was rife there were lots of Beanos

South Tyneside Council for example when the Tall Ships returned to the Tyne had a mound built and a Marquee erected so the councillors and their cronies could get an unobstructed view with free booze and grub for their cronies

They were/are known as the Jarra Mafia

They are so used to getting the votes that they think they are unassailable and have no real clue how to govern locally

There’s backhanders all over the place
