I recognise that he fell on hard times and had a series of unfortunate things happen to him, but at 56 years old and presumably self-employed for most of that time, why or how did he not manage to put together any kind of emergency fund?
No because no one truly cares. Instead you will get told to consider flat shares, get a second job, I live on less than that and I have a home, tighten your belt, stop buying that coffee in the morning and on and on it goes.
Every government since I can remember will promise to fix the housing crisis and deliver nothing – I read today that Labour have managed a decline since they got into power despite huge promises-Just 39,170 homes were granted planning permission in Q1 2025, the lowest figure since 2012 and a 55% fall from the previous quarter.
If we all really cared we would be setting up a go fund for him. Except we just sit on Reddit complaining how shit governments are.
There’s plenty of money…it’s just that they don’t want you to have any.
Hed be better pretending he is an asylum seeker. Say he washed up on the south coast. No comprendo englaisez….losta passporta.
Then he’d get food and lodgings and could maybe do cash in hand work and rebuild savings?
If we can afford it for people who’ve never paid into the system surely we can do it for someone who has?
A skilled bloke like that, working hard and still can’t afford a roof over his head.. We should be ashamed as a nation that we’ve normalised this.. Housing’s long since become a luxury instead of a basic right.. Just grim..
Absolutely wild that we look after anyone not from the UK that rocks up and asks for it, all expenses paid, but we don’t offer the same thing for British people
So there was an article on here the other day about asylum seekers being placed in apartments in Central London with xbox’s etc. Yet on the other hand we have a rise in rough sleeping by 26% in London, in 1 year.
It make me angry (sad) that a man who has worked hard and has paid into the system all his life is ‘left to rot’. However, a teen who has no desire to work (contribute) just has to ‘pop out’ a few kids and she is pampered for the next 18 years. If she starts young enough, she can have a second go…
It’s already started, from the 50’s till the next couple of decades it’s been easy street, easy work, food and water
Were now seeing that transfering to others countries leaving a void which is exponential growing.
Parts, food groups, materials are becoming limited, certain sectors are in a constant state of flux
High wages are insulating that void for now, but it’s going to topple sooner than we expect.
it just needs a little push from a couple of sources AI, or an expanding war encroaching into Europe.
Even trumps 42 months might do it
Then again I’m leaning towards it being fresh water.
I don’t think the generation that’s born after this decade will have it so easy as we have, for the last 80 years, we have been in that sweet spot, and we’re now going to have to pay the piper.
