Beatrice and Edo married on July 17, 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony was small but attended by Beatrice’s beloved grandparents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, as well as other members of the royal family. The couple was always planning a low-key wedding—unlike that of Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie, which was what one might think of as a traditional royal wedding—but their May 29 nuptials were pushed back in light of the pandemic. They married at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, where Beatrice grew up and where her parents Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson still live. To pay tribute to the grandmother she adores, Beatrice even wore the Queen’s wedding tiara on her own big day, as well as a vintage Norman Hartnell gown borrowed from the Queen’s collection.

Edo’s son from a previous relationship, Christopher Woolf—who goes by Wolfie—was 4 years old at the time and served as a page boy and his dad’s best man. Beatrice and Edo have gone on to welcome two daughters, 3-year-old Sienna Elizabeth and newborn Athena Elizabeth Rose, who was born earlier this year.

About 20 friends and family attended Beatrice and Edo’s “very private, intimate, and romantic” wedding five years ago, People reported. A source told the outlet that “It was planned for some time, and everyone had to be extremely cautious leading up to the big day” so as to protect the health of the Queen, who was “the guest of honor.”

“It was very important that she was there,” the source said.

The couple had originally planned to marry at St. James’s Palace in London with a reception to follow at the gardens at Buckingham Palace—but, like so many 2020 brides, Beatrice adapted to the constraints of the pandemic. At the time, Beatrice’s mother the Duchess of York told Royal Central that her eldest was “the happiest I have ever seen her in my life,” despite the change in wedding plans.

“She and Edo have a great love for each other and passion for life,” Ferguson said. “For them to be getting married fills my heart with joy.”
