They mostly post here and on UKpolitics as far as I can see…
>Extreme right wing ideologies ‘can be broadly characterised as cultural nationalism, white nationalism’
Cultural nationalism is extreme? What? Also the UK was 99.9% white at the 1951 census, so to all intents and purposes, by definition, a ‘white nation’ at that time. Was everyone an extremist back then? Wow.
Also watch GB news and read the daily mail and telegraph and live in Kent
> Last month, it was revealed how Prevent training documents listed sharing the view that Western culture was ‘under threat from mass migration and a lack of integration’ was a ‘terrorist ideology’.
> Even the 1955 epic war film The Dam Busters and The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare were flagged as possible red flags of extremism
> A damning public report warned in 2023 that Prevent had been experiencing a ‘loss of focus’ as it had become distracted by far right cases, rather than concentrating on Islamists.
>In his long-awaited 188-page report, William Shawcross claimed too many resources were being focused on right-wing terrorism rather than its Islamist equivalent, which has been responsible for far more deadly attacks.
“127 adults in their 60s or beyond were put on Prevent’s radar in 2023/24 – the most since records began in 2016. ”
**127?**
It may be a ‘record number’ but it’s still tiny.
can we get an over 60 age verification that stops them reading GB news, Telegraph, facebook.
Just to make sure, we do live in a democracy right? We can have our own political views, right?
You only need to read some of the comments from boomers under Daily Express posts to see how extreme and brainwashed they’ve become. It’s utterly vile.
“EXTREME RIGHT WING”
> Hey, guys, I don’t think we should allow undocumented people to be smuggled in by the thousands, and post them in accomodation at our expense.
Is Prevent mandatory? Just curious?
Could these people simply say no?
I’m curious as to how effective it actually is.
Unsurprising. I mean for some reason Reddit decided to give me a post from the reformuk sub. I had a nosey and they are full mask off Nazis. I don’t mean this as hyperbole, I mean they support ethnic cleansing.
The Daily Heil? I don’t believe a word of it. I wouldn’t wipe my arse with the Heil.
My dad has a elderly friend who has been right wing for decades but recently he’s got much more intense with his language.
Prevent is out of control with many many wrongful referrals for all sorts of things.
It’s hard to get your data off the system or things cleared if referrals do happen.
Written by the Daily Mail to drive up engagement with their 60+ right wing reader base.
I think this has something to do with Labour labelling anyone who disagrees with them as “right-wing extremists”
And GB News brought in more viewers than the BBC the other day, or so I read.
It’s not hard to understand why people are developing extremist views when they’re being bombarded by disinformation and hate 24/7 via the news and social media algorithms on Facebook/Twitter. Or god forbid if they inhabit that hellhole known as mumsnet.
When politicians and media oligarchs consistently use lies and misinformation to stir up hate and separate people into “acceptable” and “other” groups, using fear to spur on societal rejection of those othered groups this is the result. A slow descent into authoritarianism and fascism, leaving a broken society in its wake as the good ones jump ship at the earliest opportunity.
Boomers have been absolutely brainwashed and radicalised by local Facebook pages. Vaccines, 5G, 15 minute cities, immigration. You name it, they buy into a conspiracy about it.
i only realised how utterly warped my older family is when the subject of climate change comes up. That is the perfect test of family or political loyalty. They all claim to love their kids and grandkids and would do anything for them. but in reality, their far right hate based political identity means they will glaldly let their grandkids burn to a crisp. just let them hate immigrants, thats all the damn well want out of life. that makes them happy, grandkids, well, not so much.
Remember when terrorism meant committing acts of terror? Pepperidge Farm remembers…
My dad’s 65 years old, he grew up in a different England to us, no smartphones, less immigration, less information and alot less of what we’ve got. It wasn’t great but for some reason he likes better.
Saying this is right wing extremism is a fucking reach. It’s nostalgia at the most and extremism at the worst.
My Dad wasn’t the empire generation, his was the generation that parents fought the second World War.
There is a woman I know, she is in her late 60’s. She was always a bit of a weird person, but had this general approach which was to accept people. At her son’s funeral she told me about how accepting she is of trans people. But since then, she has fallen deep into far right rhetoric. I think for her it was Qanon content and also in church radicalisation (yes, there are american style hate preachers here in the UK too) Now everytime i see photo’s of local Anti-trans protests, far-right protests, and anti-immigration protests. I always find her wearing a flag and preaching her hate. Its really sad to have seen her fall so hard for this.
There is a significant issue of vulnerable pensioners with a nationalistic/religious sentiment being radicalised by these groups into hating minorities and shifting their entire personalities around these movements. They are, of course disposable to the movement, but its really concerning to see someone change so much in only a few years.
