So we took the night train from Stockholm to Narvik (18h night train), scheduled to leave at 18:10 and arrive at about 12-13 the next day.
It departed on time and it was the next day that things started to change. The train turned around at 8:30 am, and we went back to Boden. There we were told we had to wait for thunderstorms to stop, so we waited for about 2 hours, then were transfered to another non-night train, which stood there for another 1.5h before leaving. At about
18 o clock, we stopped again in Kiruna, because there were electricity damages on the tracks ahead. Waiting for 6 entire hours, there were several announcements of the nice crew telling us they tried to order busses for us which didnt come, and that they didnt have more information. At some point my fav part they order 250 pizzas and pepsi to the train to keep people supplied.
By then, our train wagon was almost empty; a lot of people had left to find a taxi or a nearby hotel.
At about zero o clock, the train started moving all of sudden, an announcement then said that the damages had been repaired and we would arrive at 2:30 am (instead of the initial arrival 14h earlier). So we got to see the swedish taiga in an extremely beautiful foggy state past midnight.
Even though 14h sounds very bad, we had a lot of fun; given that they offered a full return + 1500kr
that could be used for swedish trains, we got a night view of the taiga AND they ordered freaking pizza to the train

  1. Welcome to Sweden, were trains are late and no one is taking responsibility.

  2. Tror aldrig att jag har sett en sån där pizza i Sverige

  3. I like my pizza to be well cooked but that is just burnt

  4. >Mental wounds not healing

    >Life’s a bitter shame

    >I’m going off the rails on a crazy train

  5. Herregud jag älskar kanterna på den där pizzan!

  6. A relative of mine had a 24h+ delay on the night train. Instead of arriving on the 23th of December she arrived late on Christmas Eve.

  7. It wasn’t my fault this time. I know a lot of people who commute by train and tell me how good it. I rarely take the train, but when I do, I kid you not, it’s a 50/50 chance the train will break down.

Once the locomotive broke down and they sent a replacement locomotive… and that one also broke down…

  8. Damn I would have signed up for that – cool experience and well handled. Of course it would have been terrible depending on your plans

  9. I’m working on these trains. During last week’s delay we ordered over 600 sandwiches from Subway. Subway dude had the day of his life.

  10. Pizza on the train…. well well well… I think we would have been great friends 😀

  11. Welcome to the swedish railway system! The last 5 years or so my trains have been delayed close to 75% of the time.

  12. Was the pizza good? It looks fking terrible, and I don’t even mean the burnt edges

  13. I took the flight to Kiruna and rented a car and drove to Narvik. I would never take the train on such a long route in Sweden.

  14. Yeah taking the trains in Sweden is expensive, time consuming and risky anyday there is weather.

  15. It happened to me on the same train a few summers ago. Left Kiruna on time but hit a Moose 🫎 on our way to Boden which tore of some brake lines. They had send out a mobile repair crew in the middle of the night to fix it. Then we had to divert inland because of a forest fire close to the original track. Got our pizzas 🍕 in Sundsvall and finally rolled in to Stockholm C after 24h on the train…

  16. We had a similar experience, probably the same route, last year when just before Gällivare the train got delayed because of a lethal accident on the tracks ahead. Got turned around to Boden where everyone was put on buses to Kiruna, and from Kiruna jumped on another bus to Abisko. I believe we were 7 hours delayed from the original arrival estimate. No pizza though 🙁 and no refunds

  17. Reindeer or kebab pizza? Or was it chicken, curry, peanuts and banana?
