August 2 marks Roma Holocaust Memorial Day, a date of remembrance for the hundreds of thousands of Roma and Sinti murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators during the Second World War.
On the night of August 2, 1944, the so-called Zigeunerlager (“Gypsy Camp”) at Auschwitz-Birkenau was liquidated. Nearly 3,000 Roma men, women, and children were murdered in gas chambers. This was not an isolated event but part of a wider, systematic genocide that claimed the lives of an estimated 220,000 to 500,000 Roma across Europe—often referred to as the Porajmos (the “devouring”).

This map can’t be right for Greece, at least. Only 50 Romas were killed in Greece during WWII, and they made a remembrance day?!?
The death toll of the normal population was 300,000-800,000 according to [this](https://www.nationalww2museum.org/students-teachers/student-resources/research-starters/research-starters-worldwide-deaths-world-war).
Don’t make the mistake of taking this as if these countries killed them.
Poland was under German and soviet occupation since almost the very beginning of the war.
Other occupied countries, same thing but different levels of collaboration.
what is a roma lol
Interesting choice of color scale.
Only 50 for Greece, what are they counting? The Nazis butchered and torched whole villages but they left them alone?
Fuck off with that map using post Munich diktat Czechoslovak borders.
Now if I want to talk to someone about this chart, I need to refer to dark green, medium green, bright green yellow and off white
A joke, Roma is a minority that refuses to put their kids to school today for so called cultural traditions. Rather than remembering holocaust, they should educate their kids to integrate into society.
How much is that as a percentage of each country’s Roma population?
Oh how sad….
In hindsight this looks sarcastic af my bad
35K dead in Russia?
Were romans with nazis in the big offensive operation?
Why dont we have exact numbers of Roma killed, while for Jews it is clearly known the number is exactly 6 million?
They are always begging for money in France, right in front of my bakery. Since Romania joined Europe, they are everywhere, they don’t hold grudges, they drive Mercedes…
Romania 🔥💪
Should have been all green
The stench of fascism in these comments
When people talk about the Holocaust they talk about the tragedy of six million lives being lost to the Nazi war machine, but they never mention the thousands of Gypsies killed by the Nazis, because no one wants to talk about the positives.
‘Yugoslavia’ lmao
Independent state of Croatia and Serbia during WW2 were surely one political entity and definitely not two different states 😁
Germans are very sorry for jews, but not for others like Romas or Poles that were murdered as well. Most people don’t really know why millions Poles died while the Blitzkrieg took only 1 month. You know why? Because the Americans made it a prerequesite for Germans to learn about the Holocaust in order for getting funds from the Marshall Plan etc. You can see how education matters.
None in Denmark, Norway or Albania? And those Greek and Bulgarian numbers seem too low
I’m not sure that’s the color palette you want to use .
So unfair to place Yugoslavia as a country that wasnt a country in ww2.
For instance.
Roma in Macedonia,Serbia and Bosnia wasn’t killed.
Yet Croatia killed nearly all.
But it Croatia was a Nazi place with concentration camps
Weird map.
Was today in red cross concentration camp in Nis Serbia. Aboit 10000 killed here, no exact numbers of Roma
Only a thousand in Italy? Seems little to me
What’s Roma?
