Tropical Storm Vipha Causes Deadly Floods in Thailand Amid Climate Change

As reported by the media Channel News Asia

Tropical storm “Vipha,” which began in Thailand at the end of July, has caused severe flooding and landslides, resulting in at least six fatalities. More than 230,000 people have been affected by this disaster.

This information was released by emergency services representatives on August 2, according to a report from Channel News Asia.

According to the agency’s data, since July 21, heavy rains have flooded 12 provinces, mainly in the northern and central parts of the country. Photos and videos showing muddy water, flooded streets, sandbags near houses, and people moving around in plastic boats are actively spreading on social media.

Although Thailand faces monsoon rains annually from May to October, scientists point out that due to anthropogenic climate change, weather events are becoming increasingly intense, raising the risk of devastating floods.

It is worth noting that the massive flood in Thailand in 2011 claimed over 500 lives and destroyed millions of homes across the country.
