As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania
On August 1, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered a note of protest to the acting chargé d’affaires of Belarus in Vilnius. This step was taken in response to the illegal drone intrusion into Lithuanian territory that occurred on July 28.
In a statement on its official Facebook page, the Lithuanian MFA expressed strong protest and demanded that the Belarusian side urgently provide detailed explanations regarding this incident, as well as take measures to prevent similar violations in the future.
Recall that on July 28, the Lithuanian police recorded a drone that illegally crossed the country’s airspace from Belarus. Following this, law enforcement began searching for the drone, checking several possible locations of its crash.
Later, the military confirmed that the drone was found at the Gaižūnai training ground in the Jonava district.
This is not the first case of drones violating Lithuanian airspace from Belarus. For example, on July 10 around 11:30, the Lithuanian Air Force detected a homemade drone that crossed the border and fell near the closed “Šumsk” checkpoint. Preliminary data indicates it was not carrying any cargo and did not pose a threat.
On July 16, Lithuanian border guards shot down another small drone that also entered Lithuanian territory from Belarus. According to border guards, such drones are used by smugglers to transport illegal cigarettes into Lithuania.
