Girl Guides and Scouts from all over Europe convened in Vienna, between 19 and 23 July to attend the 18th European Guide and Scout conference.

The Malta Girl Guides (MGG) were represented by chief commissioner Rachel Aquilina, president Carmen Elina Camilleri and international commissioner Chantelle Galea. MGG volunteer and former international commissioner Jeanelle Camilleri also attended as a candidate to serve on the Europe Region Committee for the triennium 2025 to 2028.

Themed Meet in the middle, the conference hosts the joint meeting of the separately and concurrently organised 18th European Guide conference and 25th European Scout conference, the General Assemblies of the European Regions of WOSM and WAGGGS. It was a representation of multiple goals which the Girl Guiding and Scouting Movement are trying to achieve. The “middle, the heart of Europe”, Vienna, served as the perfect meeting ground for all delegations to come together. After celebrating the work done during the past triennium, the conference proceeded with discussions and debate on finding common ground and compromise to further both movements into the future.

The European Guide conference aims to foster collaboration, share best practices and enhance the skills and knowledge of the Member Organisations delegations. All governance sessions were streamed online for participants who wanted to join online.

Among the highlights, the delegates voted on important motions, delivered workshops on the MGG’s experience with the youth committee and the Stop the Violence project, participated in the international evening and visited important Viennese monuments.

Malta Girl Guides and WAGGGS

As the largest local association for girls and women, MGG has been a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) since 1972. Through this membership, MGG is proud to be part of a global community which counts to around 11 million girls and women worldwide. It strives to be a relevant movement where each girl and woman is valued, empowered and given a voice. The MGG’s vision is to provide challenging opportunities that promote leadership in girls and women. Through fun and adventure, members discover and develop their potential while making a positive difference in their community. Girl Guiding provides a safe environment where girls can be themselves, grow personally and socially, and enjoy the experience along the way. Through an engaging programme, we provide our members and volunteers with opportunities to develop a sound character, life skills, leadership qualities and a positive sense of direction, while always opening up their world to new opportunities both locally and abroad.
