Poland has decided to extend border controls with Lithuania and Germany until October 4 due to the threat of migration. This decision was announced by Poland’s Minister of the Interior, Marcin Kerviński, reports PAP.
According to the minister, Poland has already informed Germany and Lithuania about its decision.
“Our European partners fully understand this, as these measures aim to close the migration route that has now reopened through Lithuania and Latvia.”

Border controls with Lithuania and Germany were reinstated on July 7. Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk explained that the introduction of controls on the German border was a response to the decision by Friedrich Merz’s government to extend controls on their side.
Tusk also noted that this decision is a “violation of the Schengen Agreement.”
Poland plans to review its decision regarding border controls with Lithuania and Germany in September.
“In September, we will decide on the next steps in this regard based on data from the Border Guard, military, and police.”
