A couple of days ago Portugal also entered in an era where it has lived more years under its current democracy than it did in the previous dictatorship that ended in the Carnation Revolution of 1974.
A reminder to all the people living in a dictatorship today. What you are today, may not be who you are tomorrow, democracy can be achieved by anyone.
Less than 50 years ago, we were living in a totalitarian regime, with a single-party system, no freedom of press, speech or association, with political police arresting and torturing people just because they said something they shouldn’t. Books, movies and songs were heavily censored. Personality cults, poverty, war crimes, colonialism. In two years, all of this was fixed.
Today, we are a pluralist EU democracy, constantly scoring high in every democracy index. All it takes is one good day.
