Is it me or has furniture prices in Ireland absolutely gone mad? €180 for a steel-framed painted piece of junk.

  1. Not that this is 2 tables stacked on top of eachother. The 1 table with the mirrored top and crappy paint is still €180.

Is it just woodies in general, or everywhere?

  2. I walked past a “Discount” furniture shop the other day and was literally thinking that I wouldn’t like to see that crap at full price if that’s what the discounted price is!

Your example (and probably that black thing at €400 too) could be made for less than a tenner in China (source, I lived in China for work until very recently)…

  3. Unless that top has some kind of perfectly scratch-proof coating it would be hard to justify even taking it for free. Glass and mirrored tables are impossible to keep from getting scuffed and after that it’s all you’ll ever see, especially when they’re otherwise clean.

  4. You could make a better one out of a tin of roses with the added bonus of it being a lot cheaper and sweets. The markup on stuff in Woodies is ridiculous though, avoid like the plague

  5. Awful looking. Could have lashed a bit of paint on for €180. Take the recycled aluminium appearance off it.

  6. Woodies always inflate the price so they can have a 50% off sale in 28 days. So frustrating. They would make a handy profit selling it for €70 but they have to be greedy.

  7. Ah but Woodies has always been extortion. They’re super overpriced for what you’re getting. You get that same table in the likes of bargain town for €80-100

  8. It’s not just furniture, it’s everything. Prices for all consumer goods, building materials, fuel and utility bills all gone up?

  9. This is why I tend to buy furniture in IKEA, it’s a lot cheaper and I actually enjoy putting the stuff together, like a grown up Lego set

  10. Forget the €180, let’s discuss the €400 tiny desk behind it, that looks like it would break if anything was put on it other than that potted plant. 400 like sorry what? Ooooh great value lads. NOTIONS!

  11. I used to work in Woodies and something I noticed is that you should never buy seasonal stock at the very beginning, such as tree’s during Christmas and BBQs and garden furniture during summer. They intentionally mark them with such a high price so when they have a sale, it looks like you’re getting a bargain.

  12. I deliver furniture for a furniture shop. The cost of furniture has increased because of the price of shipping from China to Ireland has gone up by around 300% in the last 2 years. Most stuff comes from China and the east.

  13. I was visiting yesterday from the North (co. Down) and was shocked by prices of everything! I really couldnt afford to live in The Republic of Ireland. Passed a greengrocers, 7 euro for 2kg potatoes, 33K for a used hyundai, 34 euro to park in the spires, 7 euro for a carlsberg, and your houses are a quarter million for a semi.
On the other hand, Dublin looks f*King class. Love what ye all have done with the place. The atmosphere of the place was absolutely buzzing.

  14. I literally bought that black desk a week ago in woodies Galway for €80…. Where are you shopping lad 😂

  15. As a dutch guy moving to Ireland i found your furniture prices always ridiculously high.
Especially second hand stuff the prices people dare to ask for like a couch that is almost falling apart is insane.
