On clean energy, too many Republicans appear to forget that batteries exist. GOP critics of renewable energy claim that solar and wind are useless at night and during calm skies. That’s not even close to being true. Trump’s Interior Secretary: “We’ve gotta get back to base load.” Idiots

  1. No one can produce batteries to a level needed to supply the grid. Batteries exist, but scale of production would have to 100x to be meaningful in any economy.

  2. Battery storage allows solar and wind operations to sell electricity to the grid when demand is greater for greater profit.

  3. They are not stupid. They know this. They know renewable are cheaper, they know batteries exist.

They are gaslighting you, lying to our faces. Why? Cause they get kickbacks from big oil, because oil paid them to screw over renewables.

They lie to you and steal your children’s future because they make money off it. Eventually we will catch on. It will be too late when we do, it will be even later before we take the needed action to stop it and them.

  4. They stopped paying attention to reality many years ago when this was true but time marches on and their brains are stuck in the timeless alternative facts universe

  5. Conservative Republicans aren’t known for their short (or long) term memory.

  6. Now factor in the cost of the batteries… Grid scale storage does not exist at anything approaching a reliable level. The cost is prohibitive.

  7. Too busy banging kids and counting their coins from Big Oil

  8. Well…. they are right in theory, but wrong in practice. Yes. Today, electric batteries cannot be full-fledged buffer elements. They are only a small support. But in practice, this is not required. If the capacity of non-guaranteed generation does not exceed half the capacity of the electric grid, then power plants with guaranteed generation can easily act as buffer elements. In addition, the technology of quickly starting gas generators has been tested in practice. Which are actually used as buffer elements.
So. the fact that electric batteries cannot fully perform the buffer function is in no way a deterrent to the use of power plants with non-guaranteed generation. Especially at the very initial stage, when this percentage is very low.

Balancing such networks is more difficult than just the same coal power plants, but it is quite feasible in practice. We have no problems with this in Europe. Although, of course, yes. Green electricity is not cheap, and prices have increased very significantly. But… the road is mastered by the one walking.

  9. At this point I’m convinced America is going to be hit with carbon related tariffs. The rest of the world will be using clean energy and switching to EVs for transportation and shipping. They will add a tax to things produced with dirty energy. 5-10 years America will be so far behind the rest of the world that they will refuse to business with America.
