That’s practically 500.000 signatures but I still use a VPN.

  1. “Parliament will CONSIDER this for a debate”. They’ll consider it and decide not to debate it. That’s obvious.

  2. Not everything is about you and your wanking.

    r/nofap

  3. Nothing will come of it, I think they already said no to it.

Its not very often a petition actually works.

  4. Oh a whole 0.6% of the population backing a poorly worded and poorly thought through petition

EDIT: you’re all hating me for it. Just to be clear, I’m 100% age verification and think it’s absolutely an overreach. But this petition only speaks about how it impacts hobby forums it doesn’t bother to mention any of the democratic issues. Also, the law doesn’t need to be repealed to fix that, just amended

  5. I see loads of these lately, it doesn’t mean they have to talk about it, btw. If they agree with it, if it’s a Labour majority, they will just dismiss it.

I’ve voted on a few of these against speech, especially the non-hate crime laws a while ago, yet nothing happened. The law went through, and then it was deemed unjust by a judge.
Still, people are getting police questioned, cautioned, and read their rights, even arrested, so they can be brought down to the station voluntarily.

The government voted on this law and passed it. Labour wanted it to be stricter when it presented it, btw; they would not go against it even if the public voted in the millions because that happened only last year with some laws. The one around the Grooming gang scandal, they completely ignored that.

  6. 5000,000 signatures vs 40m no signatures.

The problem with this bill is not what it is but the way ridiculous overkill “enforcement” will be enacted.

I wonder if a picture of the Queen will work.

  7. The “debate” in question will be 3 labour back-benchers and 2 Tory back-benchers making irrelevant arguments before coming to the conclusion that they’re not gonna repeal part of the grand plan they’ve been slowly implementing for the past 20 years.

  8. Over a million people physically marched on Westminster in protest of the invasion of Iraq, and we stayed there for almost a decade

  9. Very hard to get any government to give up powers once it has them. They won’t do much if anything especially knowing other countries are following suit at some point soon.

  10. If you do not permanently turn on your VPN, you are accessing a censored version of the internet. Please, never upload your ID, never age verify. Do not legitimise this.

  11. According to Starmer’s cabinet that’ll be 500k nonces.

  12. Thats like less than 1% of the population, unfortunately.

And iv seen several mill on them were ignored.

  13. Democracy is a lie. We are led to believe that our voices matter, that our votes shape the future, and that we hold power through choice. But in reality, the system is designed to maintain control, not to give it away. The candidates are preselected, the narratives are controlled, and the outcomes rarely reflect the true will of the people. It is a carefully crafted illusion, a performance that keeps us passive while real decisions are made behind closed doors. Believing we have influence gives us comfort, but it is the greatest con of our lifetime, because it stops us from demanding genuine change.

  14. Most of the issues people are having is with social media companies intentionally doing a half assed job of enforcing the OSA by censoring everything and blaming the government. That way, users will pressure the government to repeal the act, which allows companies to continue to avoid accountability and financial penalties.

  15. If you know what it means why do you repeatedly refer to “grooners”? I’m talking about gooners. What the fuck are “grooners” lol?

I don’t understand how you expect me to read your initial comment as anything other than support for the wank licence. I’m not really one for trawling through people profiles to gauge whether they are shit posting or not.

  16. It would be interesting to analyse the data and see how many people from outside of the UK signed this…

  17. Petitioning for a mass debate because I can’t mass-debate…

  18. Take my rights, hike up rent, pay me less, make everything expensive, give houses to foreigners, BUT DONT YOU DARE COME FOR MY PORN!!

  19. I’ve always used a VPN so nothing has changed for me. Why people weren’t using a VPN before this law came in is beyond me. Your ISP can log every site you visit. But this isn’t the start of censorship on the internet, that started about 10 years ago. Try visiting torrent sites without a vpn, it’s impossible. If you’re now using a VPN because of this law. You now have more privacy

  20. This will never go anywhere. They’ll just claim the signatures were AI generated and ban it for disinformation.

Next up on the agenda however: “Introducing licensing for online petitions and protesting”.

  21. Government “let 16 year olds vote”
Also government “don’t let 16 year olds see any political content online or they won’t vote for us”

  22. 4.1 million people signed the petition calling for a re-run of the EU referendum and nothing happened why are we only surprised about this now

  23. Why do people feel like they’ve got one up on the government because they’re using a vpn? They’ve still passed this insanely authoritarian law with basically no blowback.

Do you think Chinese citizens think they’ve beat ccp because they know how to use a vpn??

  24. Has Parliament ever actually debated following one of these petitions and if so, have they ever reversed their action that led to the petition? Genuinely interested. I doubt they have.

  25. They already replied to this petition with a response that amounted to “were not changing it, screw you”.

The only vote that truly matters is at the ballet box, the petitions are useless.

  26. It’s a shame the signature count has slowed down dramatically. Same thing with most controversy, all the other side have to do is wait it out and people start to not care as much…sadly

  27. Didn’t the ‘don’t leave the EU’ Petition (or what ever it was called) get millions of signatures and the Cuntservative government at the time also say “lol no”.
