Might need to call the only people willing to do what is necessary – PETA
If only I didn’t live in an estate, I’d take them all 🤣🤣
Pets are for life, just not life after covid apparently.
I wish people understood more if you get a pet it’s not temporary.
Our dog of 16 years had to be put down during the first lock down. I couldn’t afford to buy a new dog because the prices had gone through the roof because of the number of people who thought a dog would be a great distraction from the boredom. Fast forward 2 years and these same idiots are all now getting rid of their dogs. Muppets.
Shameful people are abandoning pets.
Bunch of wankers, its the same as getting a dog for Christmas it’s soon forgotten about, most of these people seem to think dogs are a fashion accessory
The unscrupulous breeders knew many of their customers were not *real* dog people, first time owners etc. They were too interested in making quick, cash-in-hand fast easy money.
The tax man should rain hell down on them – go to the vets, find new dog owners, ask where they got them. Then get their tax and establish a fund to sort this mess out.
I have friends who run a decent sized dog charity and they are at breaking point financially and mentally. It’s horrible to see.
I understand it is usually stupidity that causes people to get and abandon dogs after they grow bored of them but at the very least they are giving them to shelters, i’m still haunted by that dogstrust ad they used to play all the time of the dog being abandoned on the side of a road. The trauma of being given up will hurt most of these dogs sadly.
I’m currently looking at the moment as my own dog of 15 years, that’s a hell of a long time when I say it out loud, passed away 2 weeks ago.
The amount of Sheepdogs, Lurchers and German Shepherds up for adoption is insane. Do people really think these three breeds are ‘sit on the couch by the fire’ type of dogs. I mean the merest effort at research will put them off an active dog like this.
I’d love to adopt a dog from the shelter, problem is, my leasing contract states I am not allowed to have pets, which sucks because the house has a garden and would have no issues having pets around. If I probably ask for pets, rent would probably go at least 10% or right up rejected, cant wait to get my own mortage
I bought a Dalmatian during covid. His parents lived on a big farm and had a big barn to themselves.
But the farmer who owned his parents keep on breeding them.
My dog is loved, healthy and gets lots of walks. But unfortunately we’ve seen many of his brothers and sisters for sale at the age of 6-12 months. And the ads stay up and drop in price every couple of days. It’s very sad.
Dalmatians are difficult dogs to look after. They shed like mad, needs at least 2 hours of exercise and they whine a lot. It’s clearly a case of people not doing any research before buying.
I don’t get that. One of the biggest advantages of getting a dog of a well known breed is that you can research them and know exactly what to expect. Why waste that?
> We know of one person who bred five Bernese Mountain dogs and couldn’t sell any of them.

Purely anecdotal but I’ve noticed an increase in popularity of the breed, probably because of Michael D’s dogs? There are a few in my area now. But that’s the thing with trendy dogs, people breed a heap of them hoping to make money and they overestimate the market, but it’s not like excess stock, there are living breathing creatures
