True size and latitude of Ireland vs North America

  1. This is obviously bullshit because you see Ireland has 32 counties whereas America has 50 states so therefore according to mathS, Ireland is at least 64% the land mass of the United States.

    You can’t argue with that.

  2. Ireland is usually located in the North Atlantic beside Great Britain but your map has it incorrectly placed in the Canadian province of Alberta. Quite the blunder.

  3. A lot of people are going to be upset with you OP that you used a 26 county map. I know your logical response is going to be “I don’t control the borders and graphics on the website you used” but it won’t matter.

  4. It’s cool and all but there’s no way ireland is half the size of texas, you’ll have people that have no interest in geography thinking irelands fairly big.

  5. This isn’t really a great representation, once you drag Ireland down into the US it gets smaller… True size and latitude of Ireland vs Canada (-ish area)

  6. Ireland has a land area of 84,000 Square km.
Wyoming has a land area of 253,000 Square km, just to give a better idea of actual size difference.

  7. I flew direct from Dublin to San Francisco before and one thing that I’ll always remember was the true scale of America when you’re flying over it. I just remember flying for hours & hours over the same landmass wondering when the hell would we ever arrive.

  8. That’s why it’s funny to have a ski/winterwear firm called 53 Degrees North, because that’s also where Lahinch is.

  9. I live in Alberta. A Irish doctor once told me that Ireland would fit into Alberta 9 times. He was also quite nervous the first time he drove between Edmonton and Calgary as there was a lack of villages every few kilometers. We think nothing of driving 1000+ kilometers in a day in Canada.

300 kilometers from Calgary to Edmonton.

  10. It’s nuts for how small Ireland is how diverse the accents are. They literally change every 15 minutes in a car

  11. When I was younger I was convinced our counties were akin to US states in size, and assumed Ireland was only marginally smaller than the US.
