Blackrock apartment scheme stalled as residents lodge appeals

  1. > However, in a hard-hitting appeal, Dr William Killeen of the Frascati Park Residents Association said: “Our resident members feel that any investment made in our houses – historic or future – runs the risk of serious monetary impairment if the scheme is approved.”

That says it all really. They are treating property as an investment and want planning bodies to rig the game so that *their* property values go up (and only up).

  2. Should hire a few farmers to spray the contents of a pig farms run off on the feckers property.

Wouldn’t help much of anything, but would help the blood pressure.

  3. Hear me out, battle royale but for Nimbys. Charge ppv prices and use the proceeds to build enough social house for every man, woman, child, dog, cat and well meaning goldfish with enough left over to fire Bono into the sun.

  4. You’d swear these nearby house aren’t already some of the most expensive in the country. How are these apartments going to make any meaningful impact to these already massively valued properties? Absolute cunts

  5. This is why there is a housing crisis. Fuck all of this NIMBY piece of shit. I live in Blackrock and there is absolutely no reason that they shouldn’t start building this ASAP.

  6. Be great if there was somewhere people could submit their approval for developments like this to counter the objections (show that more people are in favour than not). I guess that would mean every development would become a vote amongst local residents. But in these circumstances one person or a very small group shouldn’t have this level of power when it comes to these developments. It’s ridiculous.

  7. There literally couldn’t be a better location for apartments. Buses every minute into town, great cycle track, DART. Underpopulated area.

  8. >“Nor does it mitigate the loss of sunlight/daylight for some properties on Frascati Park and Lisalea.”

This is the overlooked elephant in the room in the debate over NIMBYism. There are ways to mitigate this problem in design, architecture, and orientation of buildings, but all too often Irish developers don’t give a fuck.

In my view the “build absolutely anything without regard to environmental impacts” brigade are just as infuriatingly obnoxious as NIMBYs and BANANAs. There are compromises in design and architecture to solve some of these problems, but it’s ridiculous to suggest that anyone who objects to towns and villages being cast into permanent shade is just a NIMNBY. It’s an issue which needs to be taken far more seriously if we’re ever going to solve the problem of the need for more housing vs local objections, as it’s a far, far, far bigger contributor to anti-development sentiment than anyone seems to realise.

  9. The people giving out here that the residents are lodging appeals are same people who will post the overpriced cost of the same apartment should it go ahead.

  10. For any of you who still don’t believe in supply& demand, or that building apartments drives up prices, these residents are literally saying this development should be blocked because it’ll devalue their houses.
