Trump envoy to visit aid sites as humanitarian disaster worsens in Gaza • FRANCE 24 English

Amid ongoing international outrage than at the hunger and wider humanitarian crises in Gaza, Donald Trump’s uh special envoy met with Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday. Their talks aimed at both salvaging those still largely fruitless truce negotiations and discussing the devastating humanitarian crisis in the enclave. After the meeting, an an official Israeli statement said that Israel and the US will work on prioritizing a plan for Hamas to release all instead of some remaining hostages and for the militant group to be fully disarmed. Though Israel permitted limited aid deliveries to arrive in Gaza in recent days, humanitarian groups have warned though that it is far from enough to reverse the worst case scenario of famine. For the latest, we’ll cross now to our Israel correspondent Noga Tarnipolski. Uh, hi there, Nogga. So, Steve Witco is actually in Gaza right now with Ambassador Huckabe. Uh, what do we know about their visit? What are they expected to to see? That’s right, Erin. Good to see you. Well, this is the first time that any Americans are going to be inspecting these installations that have been funded by more than $30 million US and to which the US government has been quite committed until now at least in public. We do know that behind the scenes there’s been significant US pressure on Israel at least to get horrible pictures of famine in Gaza off the headlines. the president does not want that to be the scene uh the image that remains from this war in Gaza. Um, but you know, Huckabe and uh, Witco, who at least have the chance to inspect these so-called aid distribution hubs that we as journalists have not been allowed to see at all, are seeing them accompanied by senior Israeli military officers. And we do not expect that they’re going to actually be seeing them in operation. We think it’s going to be sort of a an HQ tour, but that they’re not going to have the opportunity to see these hubs as they function when, you know, 8,000 or 10,000 Gazins are rushing in to try and get some uh food packages. So, NOGA, what have Israeli authorities said about these latest aid distributions? How are they reacting to the ongoing uh international and domestic pressure? It really is a huge muddle of reactions. In English, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the situation has admitted that the situation in Gaza is very difficult. In Hebrew, he keeps telling the Israeli public there’s no starvation there. his ministers in a very coordinated way have come out and accused Germany for example of re returning to Nazism by having agreed to begin the process of acknowledging uh or recognizing a Palestinian state. Similarly, they accuse President Mcron of France the first to say that his country would recognize a Palestinian state. They’ve accused him of being a collaborator with terror. So these are very extreme statements and they’re uh reacting with similarly dismissive attitudes to the vast majority of Israelis. Today is another Friday. We have another raft of polls. They are terrible for the prime minister. He’s losing what’s left of his credibility in the eyes of his own public day by day. But as with the international pressure, that seems just to be kind of spurring him on to indicate that he’s interested in expanding the war in Gaza and continuing to push forth against the opinions of everybody else. No Tarnipolski, thank you very much as always.

  1. IDF is probably standing a couple of km away stopping anyone from comming close, they probably just let a few people through still looking in reasonable shape and offered them something extra to say something nice about IDF

  2. Just show, UK spy planes, US boots on Gasa ground, knowing the situations very well. At 1st pl. the design of aid sites are death traps. Dont insult the world population intelligence

  3. Perhaps UN and 170 NGO's like World Food Programme, UNICEF and others should not have stopped 125 000 tons of aid, just beause they had to feed civilians only? That's not nice!

  4. when he comes, they will become angels. when he leaves, they turn back into demons.
