Australia has selected Japan to replace their aging ANZAC-class frigates with newer warships. Japan offered their upgraded Mogami-class frigate, beating out rival Germany who offered their MEKO A-200 frigate, a modern version of the ANZAC-class. This defense bidding win is a significant victory for Japan not only because it is the biggest defense export the country has ever secured, but also because it significantly deepens political and military relations with Australia.
I wonder what this means for the ailing New Zealand navy. Could we piggyback on this deal?
Japan building warships again is never not surreal.
Australia is a very rich country indeed. Why don’t they build it themselves?
