  1. Australia has selected Japan to replace their aging ANZAC-class frigates with newer warships. Japan offered their upgraded Mogami-class frigate, beating out rival Germany who offered their MEKO A-200 frigate, a modern version of the ANZAC-class. This defense bidding win is a significant victory for Japan not only because it is the biggest defense export the country has ever secured, but also because it significantly deepens political and military relations with Australia.

  2. I wonder what this means for the ailing New Zealand navy. Could we piggyback on this deal?

  4. Australia is a very rich country indeed. Why don’t they build it themselves?
