The first week of August in Croatia began with unsettled weather and strong winds, particularly in the Velebit Channel, northern and central Dalmatia, and the Rijeka region.
The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) issued yellow warnings for strong bura winds on Tuesday and Wednesday, especially for the aforementioned areas.
However, a more stable and sunnier and summer-like period is on the horizon.
From midweek onwards, weather conditions are expected to improve significantly, with rising temperatures and less wind as a high-pressure system strengthens across the region.
According to forecasts from HRT, Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and Croatian Veterans Day, celebrated on 5 August, will see mostly sunny and pleasant weather across the country. Eastern regions such as Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem will enjoy clear skies and calm conditions, with morning temperatures ranging from 13 to 15°C and daily highs between 26 and 28°C.
In Central Croatia, sunny skies will dominate, though some cloud cover and light rain are possible during the night, especially in northern parts. Morning fog may develop locally, with early temperatures between 11 and 14°C and daytime peaks around 27°C.
The northern Adriatic will remain mostly clear, while inland areas like Gorski kotar may experience occasional cloudiness without significant rainfall. Morning fog could appear in the valleys. Along the coast, a strong bura is expected in the mornings, with daily temperatures from 11°C inland up to 30°C by the sea.
Dalmatia will see partly cloudy skies early in the day, with more cloud development inland by afternoon. Winds will be moderate, especially around Šibenik, with temperatures ranging from 16°C inland to 23°C on the islands. Daytime highs will reach between 29 and 32°C.
Looking ahead, temperatures will continue to climb towards the weekend. By 10 August, highs of 34°C are expected in Osijek, 33°C in Dubrovnik and Knin, and around 30–32°C elsewhere, indicating the return of typical August heat.
