The new agreement brings Burger King®’s total contracted solar capacity in Spain to 109 MW. Iberdrola has now signed 865 MW in PPAs during 2025, cementing its leadership in corporate renewable energy agreements.
Iberdrola España, a subsidiary of the Iberdrola group, has signed a new long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Burger King® for a total of 34 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity. This new deal raises the company’s total renewable energy commitment to 109 MW in Spain.
The contracted capacity will cover the energy needs of over 900 restaurants nationwide, with a total estimated supply of 1,900 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean solar energy throughout the life of the contract.
This extension reinforces Burger King®’s commitment to sustainable energy use, while increasing its energy security amid ongoing price volatility in energy markets.
The new agreement builds on a 75 MW PPA signed in 2024, linked to the Francisco Pizarro photovoltaic plant in Cáceres—one of the largest solar farms in Europe. That contract already powers 750 restaurants, delivering an estimated 1,500 GWh of renewable energy.
With this second deal, Burger King® becomes one of Iberdrola España’s key corporate clients in the food and consumer goods sector, as it continues working to fully decarbonise its operations with electricity from renewable sources.
Iberdrola surpasses 865 MW in PPAs signed in 2025
By July 2025, Iberdrola has signed a total of 865 MW in PPAs across the European market, according to sector data. Major agreements include:
476 MW contracted with Amazon across Spain and Portugal.
Over 300 MW signed with Mercadona to supply its logistics network and stores.
A virtual PPA with Renfe for 3,700 GWh/year—approximately 190 MW of wind capacity.
Additional smaller-scale deals with industrials like Tubos Reunidos.
These figures reinforce Iberdrola’s position as a market leader in European corporate PPAs, following a record year in 2024 with 1,251 MW contracted. The company’s steady growth highlights its critical role in supporting private sector energy transition goals.
Iberdrola brings decades of experience in long-term PPAs, managing both solar PV and onshore and offshore wind projects. Its global footprint includes operations in Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil, Mexico and Australia, offering tailored renewable solutions to large-scale commercial and industrial consumers.
The latest agreement with Burger King® further strengthens Iberdrola’s renewable electrification strategy, fully aligned with European decarbonisation objectives and the increasing corporate demand for reliable, clean and cost-effective energy.
