Abandon the F-35 fighter jet out of disgust withTrump? Andrea Gmür-Schönenberger, Mitte-Ständerätin, is calling for Switzerland to consider retaliatory measures against the USA due to the high tariffs. She also does not rule out the possibility of abandoning the F-35.

Shouldn’t even be a question – our government looks like a joke right now
We should do that regardless. The americans blew this deal when they all of the sudden wanted 1.something billion more. Thats not how legit deals are made. Thats how cronies and mobsters make deals. I say – not with us!
Why should we buy planes from a banana republic
Should 100% be the plan. Also, Ukraine has proven that air combat is not a priority rather, long range, defense systems, and drone combat.
Whatever plane we buy, we are dependent. However, not being dependet on an erratic and self centred partner would be positiv IMHO.
With petty trump in front, Switzerland will be crushed. The US is not rational right now
Can we just make foreign policy lectures mandatory for the center and right. Really sucks that they always have to waste so much money to learn what is obvious. I give it 2 years (or 500 millions wasted) until they question the need for fighter jets instead of drones.
Politics is really not the place for learning on the job.
Nobody wants this US trash, is this a democracy or what?
Its about security issues and freedom of operation.
It shouldn’t even be considered retaliatory. America increased the price substantially, despite existing agreements so we shouldn’t encourage this behavior and keep buying.
Eurofighter is much better and cheaper
Can Switzerland still back out of the deal? No penalties, apart from losing the 700million already paid? If yes, then a no brainier, get Rafale!
It should not be cancelled as a “retaliatory measure”, it should be cancelled because the US has made itself an unreliable partner, and buying fighter jets from them is, at this point, an absolutely insane decision.
I’d like the gripen- the initial deal back in 2005 or 2010 was good in terms of local production, and training for that workforce. Yep it’s not as good as an f35…. it’s a like minded country and I’m sure you could do training missions in Sweden as well.
