Fucking hate the trains in that area . Almost convinced stagecoach secrety runs them ha
Why would you invest in linking five+ major urban areas with high speed and high capacity rail creating one of the largest city regions in Europe allowing for huge economies of scale, linking to deep research and R&D networks, and creating some of the best talent pools, all linked to often still affordable housing???
When you could build Crossrail 2 with decreasing returns on capital invested.
God forbid the government recognises any place outside of London.
There’s the Transpennine Route Upgrade happening at the moment. Service isn’t going to be normal while it’s being worked on.
~~fairly small island~~ ninth largest island in the world

Doesn’t the geography make it a bit challenging, you have the peak District and also the Pennines to contend with. Oh and the constant never ending drizzle and wind.
It’s weird because Britain was built on trains, and before that, Cannals.
Britain needs a massive focus on getting It’s public transport in order.
Tap on-tap off should be a thing, 24-7 transport, costs should be cheap i.e. Manchester to London for £20 (Return).
just join it all together and make a new city Livchesterpool
Who’s Manchester? The Hollies?
Woah slow down there we wouldn’t want to put a penny into improving the north of England.
The Rolling Stones are from the London area afaik.
Hang on now, you can’t just imagine some things. “The apperance of a brand new colour” “the pitch of an ultrasound”. This is like that.
Leeds and Sheffield but not Birmingham and the Black Country??
Out of curiosity who has come out of Leeds?
Of course they all come from that region. It’s shit there. What else can you do but making music?
I read a lot about the post punk era and its crazy how much intersection there was between bands in that area.
Echo and The Bunnymen, Joy Division/New Order and Factory, The Teardrop Explodes, Buzzcocks/Magazine, The Chameleons, The Smiths,The Fall, Gang of Four, The Chameleons, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, etc, etc.
The post industrial landscape of the North gave rise to a fantastic music scene
Are they talking about the largest island in Europe?
In my experience, Liverpool trains generally aren’t so bad.
But woe betide you if you’re commuting or just travelling between any of the other big cities. Sheffield/Leeds is truly baffling because it’s really not that far and yet we seem to rely almost entirely on Northern services with not enough carriages that somehow take the better part of an hour to get there.
Best we can do is having you stuck in 30 minutes traffic jam on M62
