Orange County District 5 Commissioner Kelly Martinez Semrad will host a news conference titled “Defending Your Dollars” on Tuesday morning. In a press release, Semrad said state mandates are limiting local government’s ability to serve residents and called it an “overreach.” She said it’s affecting housing, immigration enforcement, public safety infrastructure, environmental protections and budget autonomy.This comes after Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and the six district commissioners were put on notice by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. The state claimed that the county government is overspending and, in a letter dated July 24, announced that the State was beginning an audit.The news conference will begin at 8 a.m. at the Orange County Administration Building in Orlando.
