C-SPAN's description in advance of the legislative session is: "The Texas House of Representatives gavels in for a second attempt at a vote on a new congressional map for the state. Most Democrats left Texas to try and block the map designed to boost the GOP's chances of holding the House in 2026's midterms."

C-SPAN's description in advance of the news conference is: "Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Ken Martin and Illinois Gov. 1. You’d think all those people who whine about “national security” would be raising hell because of this. Just goes to show it was never about protecting this country or it’s people.

  2. Proud of these guys. This is how you fight tyranny.

Now if only Texas Dem voters would stop being useless and lazy and actually show up to vote, they could have flipped this state already and be living better lives.

  3. I find it crazy that we’re just past the point of even acting like it’s not for gerrymandering purposes. Republican reps are flat out saying it’s for the sake to help Trump keep a hold of the government because Midterms look bad.

  4. My wife and I were talking about it this morning, Abbot is like a comic book villain at this point. He claims the point of the legislative session was to address the flooding, but that simply isn’t true as this redistricting map has nothing to do with helping prevent future disasters.

  5. How does this play out nationally, in the US, over the next 13 months?

When do these gerrymandering shenanigans end?

    What is the final authority?

Is this what ultimately breaks the US voter conscience?

  6. Donate to these TX Dems! They make approximately $7k. Most have personal websites and I saw a video with Beto saying you can text FIGHT to 20377 and 100% of donations go to these folks 🙏

    Watch out for that tree

  8. Just for shits and giggles, I looked at what would happen if this got taken out to its logical extreme and:

Every state where Rs control the state legislature and Governor’s office gerrymandered so every US House seat was R, and

Every state where Ds control the state legislature and Governor’s office gerrymandered so every US House seat was D, and

In states where the legislature and Governor’s office are controlled by different parties (so presumably no new gerrymandering could occur), the Congressional allocation stayed the same as it is now, then:

R-controlled states would have 175 seats

D-controlled states would have 164 seats

In the split-control states, Rs currently have 58 and Ds 38.

So the final count would be R 233, D 202.

  9. Honestly, the redistricting hardly matters. If they lose the midterms, they’ll just say “*nuh-uh*” and not recognize the results. Keep the current Congress indefinitely.

The Trump regime can’t be stopped at the ballot box. Voters had that opportunity on November 5th, 2024. It was a referendum on flawed democracy or outright dictatorship. They chose dictatorship.

No dictatorship ends with the dictator voted out

  10. I just looked up voter distribution by party affiliation on the Independent Voter Project. It states the following:

    Party Registration Statistics

    Total Registered Voters: 17,323,617

    Democrats: 8,054,976 (46.50%)

    Republicans: 6,574,201 (37.95%)

    Third Party/Other: 0 (0.00%)

    Unaffiliated: 2,694,440 (15.55%)

If this is true, how can Republicans have 25 out of 37 house seats?

  11. This is actually insane. It’s terrifying what’s going on in the US
