War in Ukraine : At least 31 killed in latest Russian strikes on Kyiv • FRANCE 24 English

15 kilometers from the front lines in eastern Ukraine, residents in Dorilia are evacuating as Russian forces grind away to the east. What am I supposed to say? It’s hard to live in one place and then to tear yourself away. But what can I do? Nothing. The town is now close enough to the fighting to have come under attack from glide bombs and drones. And Doilia and nearby villages are under mandatory evacuation orders. There’s a threat of damage from shells. Right now, we can hear rockets or mortar shells being fired from somewhere. Basically, everything depends on the security situation. It’s another sign of Russia’s determination to take the rest of Donetsk region. On Thursday, Moscow claimed its military had taken the strategic town of Chassiva, even as Ukraine said its forces were still holding out. There’s little left of the town itself after 3 and 1/2 years of bitter fighting and Russia’s gradual advance. But its elevated position would let Russia strike other nearby towns that have been vital in keeping Kiev’s military supplied. The nearby town of Crematorsk also came under attack on Thursday as a glide bomb struck an apartment block, leaving dead and wounded. It came as many regions in Ukraine cleared up the damage from a mass Russian attack overnight with over 300 drones and several cruise missiles, many of which killed over a dozen in the capital Kiev and wounded scores more, pushing President Vadimir Zalinski to call on his Western allies to help reign in Moscow. I believe Russia can be pushed to stop this war. But if the world doesn’t aim to change the regime in Russia, that means even after the war ends, Moscow will still try to destabilize neighboring countries. Russia has about a week left until a US ultimatum expires to stop its invasion and seek peace or face further sanctions.

After bombings in Kyiv on Thursday that left at least 31 dead and over 150 injured, the city is observing a day of mourning on Friday. The Russian attack was described as “disgusting” by Donald Trump. During the night from Thursday to Friday, the town of Vesselianka, in the Zaporizhzhia region, was also hit by a strike.

  1. When you're losing so bad you demand "ceasefire" because you don't want to come to terms with your losses in a negotiation. The Ukraine is like a divine comedy of some sorts. 😅

  2. Stupid that is easy to change regime Russia is super power Russia is not Afghanistan or Iraq or Syria or Egypt or Pakistan or Bangladesh Lebanon Libya

  3. I like the delusional thinking, in reality nobody cares about Ukraine. Or it's citizens. Tell them you can't pay,,defend your land, you are not a nation

  4. Europeans who side with Russia often approach the situation with reason and objectivity rather than ideological bias. The world isn't a simple tale of good vs. evil—it’s far more complex. What we’re witnessing isn’t just a war, it’s a geopolitical chess match. The Anglo-Saxon power bloc has long sought to sever Germany and Europe from their main source of affordable energy, paving the way for overpriced LNG imports. Meanwhile, weapons sales and conflict fuel profits for industries back home.

European leaders? They’re not serving their citizens. These high offices in Germany or the Netherlands have become mere stepping stones to cushy positions in NATO, the IMF, and other institutions tied to that same power bloc. The result: European industry hollowed out, investments and companies shipped abroad, and a continent more beholden than ever.

Let’s not forget that the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is married to an American citizen and lived in the U.S. with her family for several years. Her children have deep ties to the U.S.—and that’s not just a personal detail, it’s symbolic of where many European leaders’ allegiances truly lie.

These politicians aren’t serving the people of Europe. Their loyalty is to the Empire that offers them prestige, power, and post-political careers in institutions like NATO, the IMF, or major U.S.-based financial firms. Being a European leader today often feels like auditioning for a role in Washington, not representing your own citizens.

What’s happening to Europe now mirrors what the Empire has long done to Africa: install compliant leaders, extract resources, and maintain control through economic dependence and political influence. The same playbook—just a different continent

Let’s be clear—this war was provoked. It wasn’t about defending democracy; it was about collapsing Russia, kneecapping Europe’s economy, and ensuring long-term dominance by one Empire. And that Empire isn't Russia
