I've seen it here a few times and I've spotted what I assume to be its mate as well.

Not certain but it appears to be a little egret?

It surprises me that its made a home in this little beck, the area around it is shops and garbage (attached) but it must be quite happy since its been here a while now.

I love spotting wildlife on my walk to work, makes the day a lot nicer !

  1. I’m no expert but you may well be correct. They are breeding successfully in the UK it seems. I have only seen one in northern Italy

  2. Can confirm it’s a little egret. Love these guys, they are often more urban than you’d expect!

  3. A little eejit as my mam calls them, they have wonderfully large dinosaur feet too!

  4. Correct, but I’m a bit disappointed that it wasn’t a heron with the way you perfectly got that word into the second picture.

Edit: I stand corrected, well done OP for getting the word in.

  5. That 2nd picture might be the most depressing row of buildings I’ve ever seen

  6. ‘Egret’ is a translation of a French word meaning ‘little heron’. So a Little Egret is a little, little heron. Like, a tiny one.

  7. That second photo is quite the juxtaposition. Makes me depressed

  8. Calling it a beck got my attention, then boom next picture was Palladium shops Lmao wild.

  9. Quite elegant, aren’t they? Makes me feel really old cos they were pretty rare when I was a kid, now I see them more than grey herons where I live.
