  1. I was reading an article this morning and honestly it defies belief. Even in 2022 the UK & US were still buying russian oil. Thus, effectively, funding the russian war machine.

What I didn’t expect though is that EU countries are still buying russian oil in 2024 and today

    Surely this has to stop?

  2. Money trumps Politics. People always seem to forget this

  3. So, let me understand this… War starts and Germany and EU get off Russian energy. In the meantime, Mercedes, Daimler and other German industry giants are moving their things to India WHILE India is using Russian energy…

In the meantime, Germany just lets that happen, while same industries have 10s of thousand layoffs in Germany.

    What is EU/Germany’s gameplan here?

  4. Why is the UK grouped with the U.S. here? Brexit made infographics and tour announcements so weird. Things like “Europe + UK tour”

  5. Time to give Ukraine longer range weapons so they can start fucking up more Russian oil infrastructure

  6. By this logic the whole world should place a trade embargo with Russia, something you don’t want to decide overnight

  7. Russia will sell it to other countries. While EU will buy it from US and other countries. Not sure it will change anything for Russia

  8. You will be amazed to learn who is buying all that Russian energy from the Indians and others.

The EU is the hypocrite here, as it has failed to build anything of any significance economically in the past 30 years, apart from being incredibly busy giving speeches about universal values and telling the rest of the world how they should do it.

Ursula out, forced implementation of the Draghi report ASAP.

  9. I mean eu almost stopped us stopped etc. idk why this get posted here.

Eu will stop all import when contract run out or there found other place to buy

  10. Well, at least they sell it at a very low price, making their profits lower compared to what they received from Europe.

  11. What! Russian exports didn’t even drop? They just moved!?

  12. You don’t want them to stop. Oil price will shoot too $100 a barrel the next day. You just got out of covid inflation, you are not ready for the consequences.

  13. Isn’t India processing the oil and selling the results to the EU?

  14. Who buys Indian and Chinese oil?

    Who buys oil from Azerbaijan?

Turkey imports Russian crude/refined fuel → reprocesses → EU

India refines Russian crude → sells refined fuels via traders → UK & EU markets

China -> similar model: Russian crude → domestic refining → exports into global markets that supply EU

How are you going to stop that?

  15. Of course they are buying Russian oil. We always knew they would be.

  16. Is Other a round about way that the EU, UK or US is getting the oil still?

  17. Developing countries don’t give a shit about anything except the best way for them to develop. And it clearly is to buy russian oil.
If they didn’t do so, they would probably burn more coal which would funnily be even worse from a planetary point of view

  18. They have their economic and geopolitical interests and we have ours. They care about war in Europe just as much as we care about wars happening in Asia and Africa. We have two friendly countries, to us, currently commiting genocide, but are willing to look the other way because the benefits outweight the moral issues.

  19. European countries stopped buying to the point their purchases don’t matter much.

Getting completely rid of it is impractical atm though – exp. no transport alternatives for non-russian. As long as there is mid-term strategy to get rid of it, it makes no sense to completely stop buying immediately.

  20. EU could be self sufficient in energy sector, or atleast consume more “internally” (looking at norway), but we dont want to pay that price. We also have big egos and upper class that wants to keep hegemony. Germany most likely would be quicker to block Poland for a possible extraction of energy in the baltic sea than buy russian energy again.

  21. The problem is also this, even if India and China are somehow forced to stop buying russian oil, it will only lead to increasing its price, and someone else will buy it one way or another. Unfortunately, slow sanctions were the way to go.

  22. We don’t care about European war. Why the hell you telling us to do anything? You think it’s still 18th century where you can make demands and take lands?

  23. I still think it’s hilarious how much Europe is bleeding because of racism and fealty to America. If EU decided not to permanently antagonistic towards Russia and built a long-lasting coalition instead of being America’s lapdog. Instead, EU has to pay the fealty tax to buy American LNG, eat the 15% tariffs while increasing military spending and deepening austerity, and EU is being antagonistic to China due to racism which further increases the price of goods. it’s all going to shit when we could have been a superpower.

  24. As India points out, the US buys stuff for energy still – like uranium hexaflouride

  25. Europe simply started buying Russian oil through others. Oil products, gas, metals, fertilizers, uranium, etc.

  26. this is not so simple though. some EU countries need Russian oil and you can’t just swap it to other sources and such cause of science.

  27. the more important thing is that overall exports did not decline much

that’s just how free markets work, Russians are selling at reduced prices, but are still very much selling

  28. New flash – the entire world economy is driven by energy. You literally cannot expand or grow with out it. Germany for example is tumbling because energy became too expensive from sanctions so its manufacturing costs too much now. There is no easy solution nor a quick one, moan all you want. Countries like China and India are constantly growing so they need insane amounts to keep doing that- nobody is going to stop Russia from selling to them. And if you try to then guess what? You give all these countries a reason to not trust you and PROVE Russia is right about how the bad the west is… I suggest focusing on your own problems at home – of which are many and growing!

  29. If we buy oil from Azerbaijan, does that mean EU countries will no longer import Russian oil? :)))

  30. I mean, I get the idea. But even so the fact is that it would be hard for the world to keep run the way it is now without the russian oil supply.

Obviously it would be better if we changed that, but it doesn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon.

What is good however is that Russia has been forced to sell the oil at rather steep discounts to China and India in particular, plus, they sell mostly crude oil, which means that they also lose out on the profits in the refinement stage.
So while this isn’t ideal, the graph doesn’t quite pain the full picture of how drastic the EU/US cuts in oil purchases has been for Russian profits and cash flow.

So really, for the Russians, and Putin, it is worse than it seems.

  31. All indians should see this graph when they’re crying hypocrisy towards US and Europe

  32. It won’t, because economy trumps morality every time.
