MONTGOMERY—The Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department is preparing for one of its biggest fundraising events. The annual Turkey Dinner meal will be Aug. 24, with the first meals being served at 10 a.m.. The dinner is a 20 year tradition with the fire department.
“We are serving marinated turkey breasts. We have been doing this since at least 2005 when a tornado came through town. It started as a fundraiser to get weather sirens and kept on from that,” said Montgomery Assistant Fire Chief Dwayne Murphy. “The biggest thing is we found we got to meet the community. It has never been about raising a bunch of money per se. We would host it. We would cook the turkey and the people would come.”
