The Belarusian Defence Ministry stated that the Zapad-2025 exercise represents the main phase of joint military training between the two countries this year. The manoeuvers are scheduled for September, and Belarusian and Russian troops are now completing their final training preparations.
“Today, in a solemn atmosphere, we welcomed the first representatives of the Russian Armed Forces. During the military drills, we intend to develop new tactics and methods for deploying ground force units, based on an analysis of recent modern military conflicts,” Deputy Commander of the Northwestern Operational Command Pavel Shebeko stated. He also added that these manoeuvres are held regularly every two years, alternating between Belarus and Russia.
One of the Russian Armed Forces servicemen, who arrived in Belarus to participate in the Zapad-2025 exercise, emphasised, “Currently, the military alliance between Russia and Belarus is essential for the continued development of our countries. This is crucial given the present threats. Our unit’s personnel have frequently taken part in joint international exercises with the Belarusian military. A distinctive aspect of these drills is the rapid manoeuvrability in troop deployment.”
