Hej Danes!
I’m an Australian student that is going to be studying at the University of Copenhagen (South Campus) for one semester in Autumn 2022 as an exchange student. However, I am really struggling to find accommodation 🙁
Would anyone be able to provide some recommendations on how to go about finding student accommodation? I would preferably like to stay in a kollegiet, but I’ve noticed that most have waiting times that are years long. I’ve already applied through [s.dk](https://s.dk) and the KKIK, but I doubt I’ll be able to secure a place.
At the time of applying for exchange I also asked to be considered for UCPH Housing Foundation. I’m not sure if they will be able to find me a room yet though. However, through my research online I have learned that not many people have had positive experiences with the UCPH Housing Foundation.
I noticed that some of the student dorms that don’t have waitlists ask you to submit motivational statements. Is there a particular way to write these statements so that my likelihood of being accepted to the dorm is higher? For example: [https://collegiumjuris.com/](https://collegiumjuris.com/) (I am a law student).
My last resort would be to apply to places like Basecamp which don’t seem to have waiting lists: [Private student dormitory in Copenhagen | BaseCamp Student](https://www.basecampstudent.com/locations/denmark/copenhagen-city/).
My budget (ideally) is a place that is less than 6,000 DKK per month. Do you think this is achievable?
Any recommendations about accommodation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help!
P.S. If anyone is looking to sublet their room at Tietgenkollegiet over Autumn 2022 please let me know ;). That place looks incredible…

Hello.Autumn? When in autumn?
I probably have a room for rent in Frederiksberg. 5000 DKK each month. You will have a roommate though (a 19 year old female student), but an awesome apartment I completely renovated 2 years ago. Very close to Metro which will take you directly to campus.
I imagine the university has an accomodation office if they regularly take in exchange students. If you cant find it on the website ask the study guidance office to help you out.
I went to DTU (as a danish student) and they kept emergency housing empty and used them temporarily when exchange student had not found accomodation in advance, so i imagine KU will be similar.
It can be a pain in the butt to find accomodation in copenhagen for students, and specially around start of the semester, so it is good that you already start looking now.
First if your university is one on the list that Copenhagen university have cooperation/exchange agreements with, maybe you own can help, as they must have send students before.
You may end up having to rent to the privat marked. There are pros and cons with that – one being risked of scams – those offent happens around start of semester when the young ppl are desperate to find a place to stay. So if you can do research on the landlord before paying anything or agreeing to rent.
As prices are high in copenhagen for renting, it is common for students to band together for rent of an anpartment. They will put up notes on dorms, facebook, faculty boards etc. so keep eye out for that.
If you haven’t found or asked yet, maybe try some of the australian expats communities in copenhagen on FB and other social medias.
An option could also be [https://www.boligportal.dk](https://www.boligportal.dk) – apartments and rooms. (again research abit on landloard).
Try contact [https://www.edc.dk/lejebolig/k%C3%B8benhavn/v%C3%A6relse/](https://www.edc.dk/lejebolig/k%C3%B8benhavn/v%C3%A6relse/) – they are real estate broker – they have list of 555 rooms/places for rent for students in the copenhagen area. If other real estate agencies offer somethng semilar I don’t know.
[https://danhostelcopenhagencity.dk/da/udvekslingsstuderende-gaesteundervisere/](https://danhostelcopenhagencity.dk/da/udvekslingsstuderende-gaesteundervisere/) – says they have rooms for exchangestudents and guest teachers. They say it is temporary. As the name imply it is a hostel, so also lots of bagpackers, so not sure that is good if need quiet time to study. But then maybe study at the uni’s libery. This option could be used, as a starting point if you find nothing else, and once you are here, then keep looking.
findroomate.dk can work, but beware of scammers! And don’t give them money way beforehand. And if it seems shady, it probably is.
I am a visiting PhD student from Australia and I found my current accommodation through a facebook group where people advertise their rooms to let. Try joining Accommodation in Copenhagen or similar facebook groups and put out a post stating your interest in renting a room for which ever period that you want to stay in CPH.
I’m paying 5000dkk per month for rent and 300 for utilities.
A word of caution: There are A LOT of scammers in the fb group who will approach you, so it may be tricky for you to differentiate which are genuine and which are scams.
Best of luck in room hunting, if you want to know more, you can send me a message.
Below 5000, or a dorm, on a half year notice is borderline impossible, that offer the other commenter gave you is a godsend honestly and i recommend you pursue it over being picky.
The housing crisis here isnt quite at a fever pitch, but it’s not far off. Unless you know or can find a private renter who’s not ripping you off, you might end up couch-surfing.
Basecamp near Nørreport is pretty good. The rooms with no kitchen are great value, and you get to used the shared kitchen, which is bigger anyway.
