I was hiking east of Calmbach and stumbled upon an abandoned village in the woods that was creepy. Does anyone know the history of the place? I can’t find any references to it.
That’s not a village, but a former “Volksheilstätte”, i.e. a sanatorium.
Basically a lost place now it actually has an owner but seems to get auctioned off every few years because obviously it would need a lot of money to renovate the whole thing.
Holy shit how random to See my home village Calmbach on here! We used to go to these old Buildings as Teenagers at night to… well to do what Teenagers do. So many Memories!
Now i wanna go there, looks really cool..
Looks like affordable housing to me!
Sieh dich um. Wenn du keine Leiche findest, ist sie vielleicht in einem Loch.
If you look through one of the windows of the old psychiatric clinic at night, the one that belongs to the room where they fixated and lobotomized the worst of their patients, something might stare back at you from the chair that’s still there.
And then you better hope the fixation still works.
(At least that’s what we told each other back then when we visited at night. I was too scared to even enter the village.)
Ooh nice free apartment only for 500€ warm a month 😀
Yeah so the story is this: Schwarzwald used to be THE place to be for tourism. Then all of a sudden, it wasn’t.
That’s the story. Lots of abandoned, even formerly famous, buildings there.
What you see there more or less continues all the way south down the Schwarzwald.
Thanks, now I want to check it out. It’s not even far from my place.
Is it possible to get there without jumping any fences? I’m not a huge fan of trespassing.

Alte Klinik Charlottenhöhe, used to be a hospital for lung health and tuberculosis, but fell into disrepair in the seventies.
