  1. I have family members that are only able to get out of bed because of regular infusions, thank you for donating. Sadly I was blacklisted after failing to complete a donation so I appreciate everyone who can go and anyone who makes an attempt!

You might want to spoiler this post, I think to some a needle in the arm image can be quite disturbing so people should have the option to not have that instantly slapped on their homepage

  2. Did it for the first time this year and discovered that I’m O Negative (Universal donor), so I booked in for the soonest next available slot.

  3. Sadly they banned the gays, now we’re allowed, I take too many meds to be allowed.

  4. Sadly banned for life having had to have transfusions. Told them I’d been a mad cow for ages before that, so where’s the diff, they weren’t impressed.

Thanks to all blood donors, would if I could etc.

  5. Sadly I’m not allowed as I can’t keep my haemoglobin levels high enough. Keep up the good work while you can!

  6. I just did it on Monday eve, O- with some lack of antibodies so my blood goes to neonatal babies. I was hounded by the blood service, 13 voicemails in a week 😂

  7. If it wasn’t such a fucking song and dance to book i would. As it stands im not spending half an hour to book an appointment then travel half across the city 🙃 during work hours only to be turned away

    Yeah nah

  8. Well done mate, I cant unfortunately after my heart attack. My wife still does tho

  9. Went once and they tried to get it going and instantly felt lightheaded. Been too scared to go back since. Unfortunately I’m B- so they really want me too!

  10. Got my first appointment booked already for October! Was the closest I could get in for a local donation but hopefully they’ll pop up more frequently next year.

  11. I unfortunately cannot donate blood as have had a transfusion but thank you to all that do. I would not be here without all you people who donate. Hope you enjoyed your biscuits after 🙂

  12. I’m just waiting to donate right now, perfect Reddit reading opportunity! Good on you everyone who donates.

  13. I tried to recently but was told my veins were too small and there was no way. A worthy thing to do with your time and body, an hours appointment could save somebodies life.

  14. Giving blood makes me sick so I can’t donate 🙁 but big ups to everyone who does !

  15. Thanks guys. Can’t donate but do need to receive sometimes due to a blood disorder so I appreciate it immeasurably.

  16. I wanted to but I faint when I have blood drawn so there’s no way they’ll let me

  17. I gave blood about a month ago and then they phoned me up a few days later and asked if I fancied donating plasma. Felt really chuffed at first, because surely I must have SUPER PLASMA if they’re asking, but no, I just live near one of the three plasma donation centres in the UK. Anyway, read the website and cried at all the people needing the stuff so I’m off tomorrow afternoon to have my blood taken, sieved, then get given all the lumpy bits back.

  18. Get booked in for donating platelets. The snack game goes up to the next level.

  19. I’ve donated a couple of times, I loved seeing the notification that the blood was used for someone

  20. I’ve been donating regularly for the past while ever since my baby needed a transfusion. Had to cancel this week because of a lurgy but will get booked in again asap.

For anyone in Scotland, the Scot Blood website is so easy to use for booking and cancelling appointments once you are registered!

  21. Not thinking of doing it, rather, just chilling and waiting. Waiting for the next appointment as the time in between is quite long. Unfortunately not quite O-, but at least O+ which helps I think two out of three or so.

  22. A few weeks after giving you get a text message now telling you where your blood went which I thought was a nice touch.

  23. Sadly I am too gay and they won’t take my blood. I used to donate when I was younger though.

  24. My next is in October. O- so they won’t stop harassing me for it now

  25. Tired to do this a few years ago and the guy who was supposed to hook me up to the machine didn’t even try to get a vein, just looked at one arm and said he couldn’t do it. I have decent veins they just can’t be seen only felt. He literally did not even touch my arm to check. And didn’t even glance at my other one. I figured they don’t need blood that badly if they can afford to turn away folk without even trying to get it.

  26. Donated three times, fourth in September. If I could give every day I would. O negative, so happy it can be used for anyone who needs it.

  27. Just hit my 25th donation last month. I was once on an ECMO ward when my mother was unwell and they saved her life but blimey it was eye opening the amount of blood they went through.

  28. Every time I attempt to give blood, I am told I am anaemic and should call my GP to sort out further testing. Further testing says I am not anaemic. I return to the donation centre, I am told I am anaemic…

I salute all of you donors, I have given up trying now.

  29. I do plasma every 2 weeks, I live near a donor area and they always need more!

  30. As someone who cannot donate ever due to the lifelong medications I’m on can I personally thank you and anyone else who takes the time to do this. You have genuinely saved my life.

  31. I was supposed to give blood for my 3rd time in June and my iron count was just below the limit needed so I couldn’t donate, I still feel gutted. My next appointment is on the 30th of September

  32. I can’t for various reasons. I had a transfusion a few weeks back, first time (and hopefully the last ). It was weird, watching someone else’s blood go into me. I can understand how some people don’t want it, it is a very profound experience. I’m so grateful though as I really needed it.

  33. I’m booked in this Sunday. My veins are too weak to donate platelets but is good enough for neonatal clinics.

  34. I think everyone shoukd give blood if they are able too, for at least a year.

  35. Currently waiting on my first donation!! Such a simple yet rewarding process

  36. I’m O- but I’m not allowed due to a medical condition. Thank you for donating 🥰

  37. Well done

Used to give regularly when it was drop in centres

Can’t be booking slots 6 six in advance unfortunately, sure they doing fine as they always fill quickly

  38. I’d love to but I can’t book weeks, even months in advance due to my job needing me at different times, on different days.

I always used to give blood when I was younger (I think I’m on about 10 visits?) but it just doesn’t work for me when you have to book so far in advance. 😖
