  1. A far-right rally planned in Cork for that day was reportedly set to be cancelled to allow supporters to travel to the festival.

On Wednesday, a message on the Mayflower’s social media said: “On behalf of Mayflower Community Centre CLG we regretfully wish to inform the public that the upcoming ‘Mise Éire’ festival due to be held on 23rd August, 2025, will NOT be hosted at the Mayflower Community Centre.

“This is due to terms & conditions not being complied with. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

  2. A right wing music festival in Leitrim? That’s possibly the shittest event I’ve ever heard of.

  3. I gotta be honest, I am _incredibly_ curious what an Irish “far right” musician sounds like or what on earth they’d sing about. Not that I’d wanna _listen_ to any of that shit you understand; my ears couldn’t take the bleeding.

Do also wonder if this thing was gonna have an attendance of Fuck All, and has only thrown light on the whole thing & created a new thing for bigots to scream “censorship!” over.

  4. Kneecap signed the letter after all the whinging about ‘free speech’ a few weeks ago lol Hypocrites

  5. I may get downvoted on this sub, but Kneecap signing a letter to cancel a music festival is peak hypocrisy considering they were crying free speech for the last few months.

I’m sure that some of the people playing at this festival don’t have great views, but many also consider supporting Hezbollah to be disgusting too. Not to mention calling for the death of MPs

    Edit: -24 and counting.

I wrote this comment on a post on r/Ireland where people were giving out about the censoring of kneecap. It’s proving correct.

    >Most people who talk about free speech really only mean free speech for what they agree with. (+60)

  6. This type of shite for the past 10 years is how we got to the point of Indians being assaulted.

You can either let people dissent or you can keep pushing out all peaceful avenues until you get the non-peaceful ones.

Probably not at all far right. That’s just what they say to justify getting their way.

  7. I can’t imagine it sold too many tickets anyway with this lineup. It’s a real who’s who! As in who is that?! And who are they?!

Musicians – Stephen Sutton, Gary Hynes, Chris James, The Halloran Brothers, Siobhan O’Brien, Hair of the Dog, Neil Shanahan, DJ Snagman . (More to be confirmed).

Speakers – Kevin Flanagan (Brehon Academy), Louise Rosengrave (Journalist), John Waters (Writer & Journalist), Jamie McGlue (teacher, poet, author). (More to be confirmed).

  8. Gotta keep at these people

But also got to keep at the government/s for making it so easy for these goons.

  9. Whilst I don’t agree with the far right I also don’t agree with censorship im torn in this case plus I never knew there was a far right music scene in Ireland I also find it strange when I think of far right music scene I think of fat hillbilly Americans with tattooed swastikas moshing

  10. You couldn’t make this up, the “Ireland is Full” crowd decide to have a festival in the least full county in Ireland! Leitrim is my retort whenever someone says Ireland is full!

  11. Seems like it’s just changed venue, not cancelled altogether.

The source for the information in the article is the Mayflower Community Hall’s facebook page, that says they have decided they will no longer allow the event to be hosted there. No confirmation yet from the event organisers if they’re gonna cancel the event.

  12. Kneecap: “The establishment is conspiring against us to stop us performing at music festivals because of our political views!”

Also Kneecap: *signs a petition to stop other artists performing at music festivals because of their political views*

  13. even though im neither left nor right, i dont agree with this bullying into action from the left.

the lack of action (or at least some kind of plan people can point a finger at) against both legal and illegal immigration into Ireland from our government has turned ireland into a political feeding frenzy.this whole youre either with us or against us crap going on all over the place.and the whole time in the background shady deal after shady deal is,being passed by our government.
    rant over.

  14. Makes me think, there’s clearly a market for it. Why not hold some fash fest for them on some barren island a la fire festival and conveniently forget to ferry them back?

Would be great. They would finally have their own little nation and can sort themselves out.

  15. Who would they’ve had on? Rick Rock? Chris Brown? The Burkes?

  16. I work in the arts community in Leitrim (the horror) so this has been close on my radar for some days now.

For some context, Sean Wynne is chairperson of the venue’s committee. He runs Lough Allen Adventure Centre which was also advertising accommodation for the event. From what I’ve been told, he pulled a fast one on the test of the committee by conveniently leaving out the far-right details when organising a “music festival”.

A meeting of the committee was held sometime last week before the artists’ letter was written up. Some members had objections but it was essentially allowed through because Wynne had threatened to step down from the board of directors and had discussed “legal advice” should the event be cancelled, indicating that the Mayflower would be vulnerable to legal proceedings if the booking wasn’t honoured. Other venues in other counties have cancelled similar events with zero legal action once they became aware of their true nature, so it’s likely that was an empty threat.

There was also a deceptive statement of the nature of the event provided by one Stephen Kerr, cunt-in-chief at The Irish Inquiry, so that should speak for it’s authenticity.

Anyways, lots of relief at work today when this news came out. The statement itself was signed by a lot of high profile groups like Kneecap, Fontaines DC etc, so shoutout to them for protecting Leitrim of all places. We get a lot of shit, and a lot of it’s unwarranted for the most part. Come down and visit if you’d like to meet some genuine legendary bastards (not sponsored)

Most of this information is from a master doc provided to me through my work, so I can mostly vouch for it’s authenticity, but I’m just a reddit comment. Don’t take anything I say as absolute fact.

  17. I actually wish they went ahead so I could see actual photos of the people that go to this and what artists play. The music scene in Ireland is tiny and if we know who is who out in the open it would help us avoid those poisoning the well.

  18. I don’t give a shit about politics, trying to cancel music festival because group of people has different political views than you is a peak piece of shit behavior.

  19. More importantly, who was supposed to be playing it?

  20. Free speech means kneecap shouldn’t be cancelled due to their political stances but that kneecap should support cancelling other artists due to their political opinions.

Keep downvoting anyone who points out how obviously deranged this is so we can all pretend it isn’t.

  21. Someone made a post a few days ago (maybe even weeks?) about this, and I was hoping to find it again to say fair play for raising awareness. I’m not saying it got cancelled because of their post, but public attention is how you get these things shut down. There’s a reason they have to disguise it as a “Music Festival”, because they know the majority of people don’t want it there and they have to be shneaky about it.

  22. Just popped over onto the ol’ Faceybook for a wee look.

Organisers are promising legal action against those who signed the letter, and the hall committee for cancelling the event.

NOT only that, but they’re now hosting it at a secret location “outside castlebar”, and it’s going to be EVEN BIGGER, with over 400 tickets already sold!

  23. Is this the way festivals are going now? Electric Picnic a Far left festival?

  24. I wish this had gone ahead just because it would have given us the funniest memes. They shouldn’t have condemned it, they should have sent a photographer to cover it.

  25. This reminds me of the “Hetero Awesomeness Festival” in Ohio U.S. Where a WHOPPING 30 people showed up.

  26. I can picture a rural community hall, half-filled with insecure men, all of them holding their phones up as they broadcast to their “channel”
