On Tuesday, 5 August 2025, Denmark, Norway and Sweden confirmed they would fund a $500 million package of equipment and munitions for Ukraine, sourced from the United States. The contribution falls under NATO’s newly launched Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte praised the swift action of the three Allies and highlighted their ongoing commitment to Ukraine. “Since the earliest days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Denmark, Norway and Sweden have been steadfast in their support for Ukraine,” said Rutte.

He added: “I commend these Allies for their quick efforts to get this initiative off the ground. This latest round of funding will deliver life-saving equipment and critical supplies to the front-line, strengthening Ukraine’s hand and helping them deter aggression as they pursue lasting peace.”

The announcement follows the Netherlands’ pledge on Monday, 4 August 2025, of an artillery and ammunition package also worth more than $500 million. Together, the two packages represent the first tranches of regular deliveries under the PURL initiative, totalling over $1 billion.

NATO states that its members are responsible for 99% of the military support provided to Ukraine. The PURL initiative is designed to ensure Ukraine is in the strongest possible position as peace efforts, led by President Trump and his administration, continue.
