EU’s landmark AI act enters new phase • FRANCE 24 English
When it comes to artificial intelligence, the EU is doubling down on its mission. Curb misuse without crushing innovation. This weekend, the second round of its landmark AI act takes effect. From August 2, member states now have to inform the commission about which authorities will be in charge of policing AI compliance under the new law. Generative AI tools like those used to write text, make images, or compose music must reveal the data used to train their models. As the EU puts it, the sources used to train generalpurpose AI model that is made available to users in Europe will have to be clearly documented. If they’re protected by copyright, the authors will have to be remunerated and above all the consent will have to be obtained. Tech giants like Open AI and Google have agreed to follow the EU’s voluntary code of conduct, but others such as Meta are pushing back. Industry critics say the rules could create confusion for companies, especially around intellectual property and safety requirements. What AI requires is a great deal of good faith. That is to say, demonstrating that we are trying to do things right. It does not mean doing everything perfectly since there are still unresolved issues on the research side. All this is just the beginning. Next year, so-called high-risk AI used in areas like law enforcement, education, or critical infrastructure will face stiff requirements before being allowed on the European market. paper.
Parts of the European Commission’s much-anticipated AI Act come into force this weekend. It’s been hailed as the first piece of comprehensive legislation aimed at regulating AI globally, critics though say it doesn’t go far enough.

Wonderful
Bravo, Europe. Way to go!😊😊😊
This is regulatory capture. The big players are now shutting out competition by ushering in regulation.
😂US will bend the EU😅😅
AI is going to be used by the Russians and MAGA Americans to hack the hell out of Europe. I wish Europe would wake up and realize there are all these powers trying to DESTROY EUROPE because they are jealous of it. Europe needs to lock its doors and build a moat.
World leaders in regulation, and that’s about it when it comes to AI. France has a few good AI companies the rest of Europeans goes to US for an AI career
so when do we get our killer robots?
Unable to think logically, AI might just be the trick to unthinking; totally.
"Parts of IA Act comes into force" – Might want to spell check this with AI.
OFC Meta is pushing back now since they are about to train their models and in a hiring spree 😂😂
