Police said that on Thursday at 14:10 an accident occurred at Rīga central station, involving a Rīga-Ogre electric passenger train and a goods wagon.
VAS “Latvijas dzelzceļš” (Latvian Railways/LDz) said that the collision caused a derailment of the goods wagon and damage to the passenger train. Delays in passenger trains on the Aizkraukle line are expected while the consequences of the accident are being investigated.
There were no injuries reported in the accident, though emergency services were quickly in attendance. Firefighters did not detect any hazardous substance leakage.
The State Police, in turn, told LETA that the police provided support on site, but the investigation into this accident is not within their competence.
