Despite claims that tourists are tightening their wallets this summer, the latest fiscal data tells a different story — July 2025 was a record-breaker for spending across Croatia’s tourism and retail sectors.

According to official figures, the number of hospitality receipts rose by 3% compared to July 2024, while the total amount spent jumped 9.5%, reaching a massive €808 million in restaurants and cafés alone.

When it comes to accommodation, there was a 2.3% drop in the number of receipts, yet overall revenue still climbed by 5.6%, totalling €637.5 million — a sign that rising prices are offsetting any decline in volume.

Meanwhile, spending on food and drink saw the biggest jump. In July 2025, a massive €77.7 million was spent on groceries and beverages — up from €68.4 million the year before. That’s a 13.5% increase, underlining the continued importance of everyday essentials, even as other areas of consumption fluctuate.
