Scott Jennings couldn’t help but laugh when this CNN panelist tried making this claim. Full disclosure, my sister was one of the people who fled to Illinois who’s a state representative in Austin. And what I will say about that is that they had to flee. They don’t have control. Let me tell you, they don’t have control of the House or the Senate or the Governor’s Mansion or anything in Texas. But what I will say is that Republicans are trying to take away districts and on the backs of Latino and African-American voters in the state and Trump has said himself over and over and over that he is only doing this because he wants to pick up seats for the midterm election. So you get elected to represent people in Texas and your reaction to that is to go to Illinois and hide behind JB Pritzk. They’re breaking quorum. That’s what they are doing. You’re breaking corum because it is not minimum.

The Republicans have six distinct advantages over the Democrats; 1) the plutocracy composed of the super wealthy funds them; 2) They are all in, in the sense of Texas Hold-em poker which means they are committed to backing Trump no matter what; 3) This means that the Republicans have no interest in being honest and have committed themselves to perpetuating massive lying and distortion; 4) they have complete control (or Trump does) of all branches of govt. including the Justice Dept., the FBI, etc., 5) Trump has demanded complete loyalty and anyone in his circles fear repercussions of destroying their careers or just threats to their lives; 6) The media is equally fearful of Trump as their corporate owners are solidly behind him. In other words, the Democrats have little chance of competing with them at any level unless there can be honest elections and that ability is fading fast. In other words, the U.S. has become an authoritarian county in all by name and the media is beholden to the Republicans and sees no upside to actually doing their jobs. At best, they have reporters who might but it is easy to destroy their credibility or at lest to sow doubts about their reporting. Also, reporters do not want to destroy their careers and they fear death threats as well. Welcome to fascism, folks, and let's be honest, Americans are vastly ignorant, stupid, indifferent and only care when something threatens them personally.
