  7. Switzerland should just stop shipping gold to the US. 20% of the trade deficit is refined gold (Switzerland supplies essentially the whole world with it). However, margins are tiny, GDP impact minimal and number of jobs too.

    It is beyond stupid to include it in the trade deficit argument but exclude services such as software licenses and so on.

  10. It has been discussed repeatedly for many months, but little has happened. Fundamentally, all European countries must ask themselves whether they still want to rely on the F35 amid these geopolitical divisions, at least outside of nuclear participation. From a purely technical standpoint, there is still much to be said for the F35, but the increasingly hostile behaviour of the United States makes a purchase seem less and less sensible. The Swiss would do well to reconsider the purchase, even if this will further worsen the already unfavorable trade balance.

    A few weeks have now passed since this scandal and the criticism has not diminished, so the 39% punitive tariffs and the behaviour of the Sun King on the other side of the Atlantic have only accelerated the fire.

    Let’s just pay the cancellation fee.

    We already had offers from Europe back then. France already mentioned back then that they would leave the door open for us if anything happened.

    And I hope that this time our government collects the purchase price in the form of a printed document.

  24. As a Canadian, I sympathize with the Swiss dealing with this bullshit.

    I almost wish Trump would just Tarriff everyone 1000% so that there is no reason to even entertain the US in trade discussions going forward, despite the havoc it would cause to the global economy. Selfishly, I’d love to go even one day without having to read this exhausting Tarriff crap.
