Hello everyone,

I let myself be surprised by a blitzer on Günterstalstrasse in Freiburg/Breisgau in the direction Schauinsland – Freiburg (speed limit of 30 km/h). My speedometer showed 40 km/h, so I immediately slowed down.

I didn't see any flash or any special light. Am I out of the woods, or does this type of blitzer (which seems to be quite new) work differently?

(I should point out that I am VERY respectful of speed limits, but here I was really surprised)

THANKS !

  1. they do (if it went of you will have noticed in all likelyhood)

  2. Some blitzers do and some don’t. This one usually does but I think if there’s enough ambient light they dont

  3. Hell yeah.

In contrast to, like, Italy, in Germany you’ll always know when you’re about to get an expensive little love letter.

So, sounds like you’re good. There’s no way one doesn’t see that nasty red flash.

  4. What your speedo shows is about 2-5km/h off at that speed and the Blitzer also has some additional headroom, probably something around 32km/h to trap. So even if you’d be looking at a maximum of 6km/h over. It’s all rough math but you probably weren’t going fast enough to trip it anyway.

  5. Blitzers in Germany flash. Quite brightly, too. If you’re not sure, it usually means it hasn’t caught you.

The only exception is Blitzers in tunnels, where often invisible infrared light is used.

  6. Most of the time, yes. They’ll typically do a visible red flash. Some use infrared flashes though.

  7. Prof it by a second run and film it with your smartphone /s

  8. Yes, they nearly cause an accident with how bright they flash

  9. Usually you will know that you got Flashed… 40 Tacho doesn’t mean it is gps/radar 40

Production cars can have a positive speed difference of 10-15%. While not showing less than but higher is allowed.

  10. Some do, some dont

You’ll just have to wait for mail

  11. This particular one does flash most of the time you sped but there are also some that don’t like in the Kapplertunnel (towards Freiburg on the B31)

  12. Use the app Blitzer.de and stop worrying about the infrared light they do emit when they take a photo

  13. If your speedometer was showing 40, your real speed was probably somewhere between 35 and 37. Minus 3 km/h tolerance means your official violation would be going 2-4 km/h over the speed limit.
Which probably is below the threshold this speed camera triggers at.
