CALUMET, Mich. (WLUC) – After months of construction, you can now check out a new park in Calumet.
A ribbon-cutting was held Thursday for Calumet’s new ‘green space’ park. It is located in a section of space between 5th and 6th Streets, next door to the Calumet Theatre. The park features a bandshell for live music and blueberry plants among the park’s greenery.
“We are so excited to officially open our new public gathering space,” Calumet Village Manager Megan Haselden said. “This is a project that has been years in the making.”
However, some parts are still unfinished. Haselden says the park’s grass is off-limits for the rest of the year to allow it to grow. Additionally, the park has no name yet.
“The DDA is working on it,” Haselden said. “We will be getting some input from the community. We will eventually, as we get a little closer to that, start doing some polls with names ideas.”
Haselden encourages you to visit the village’s website to leave a name idea. She says she also hopes to rededicate the park in the spring with its chosen name.
