  1. One of my big fears of getting older: that I will loose my packing speed and Aldi cashiers will eat me alive

  2. HA I remember the times they didn’t even have scanning registers and put in all prices manually, THAT was fast.

  3. Gotta have your shit lined up beforehand, and I always recommend switching to single hand loading and reaching for your wallet while the last five pieces are rolling through.

  4. Coming back to the states was a trip in terms of checkout speed.

Upside: I am no longer anxious about having too many things to buy or being too slow to keep up with the cashier

Downside: Now I’m anxious about how fucking long it’s gonna take to get out of the store when the cashier’s taking like 2 or 3 minutes per customer

edit: also many stores are too damn big, when I stepped into a WinCo I felt like I’d developed sudden agoraphobia

  5. The secret is to get your sorting strategy right. The battle starts long before it is your turn to be processed. Basically there are only two factors to consider: how to avoid crushing fragile items – so those need to come last – and to slow the opponent down as much as you can. To achieve that, you build little stacks of items that are just stable enough not to topple, but require some careful handling on their part to avoid throwing stuff off the conveyor build. Now, that alone won’t suffice, you’re facing opponents in constant professional training and are nothing but a mere amateur, so you’ll need to work all chances to succeed. Take note of the position of barcodes on items. Always place them in a way that the item needs to be turned about or tilted. Mix it up, so they have to look and think. Still might not be enough, but you have a fighting chance. If this is not enough, you’ll want to hit the gym more often. But careful there, don’t go for muscle mass, it slows you down. Endurance and agility is what you want to aim for, so choose your exercises accordingly.

No need to thank me, but I sincerely think this has been my most helpful contribution to this sub so far.

  6. Fastest checkout I ever had was a couple months ago at Lidl.

Cashier stacked all my items next to one another with the barcode facing down while the customer in front of me was packing. Pushed all the items in gone go across the scanner was was done in about 2 seconds. no item was missed
